Masks are still a thing

I'm gonna start wearing some creepy face masks. If I'm forced to wear that chit, might as well make everybody super uncomfortable. Is everybody playing it safe with solid colors?

reply

More amazing is covid-deniers are still a thing.

reply

Also, too many MDs talking out of their ass with unfactual facts.

reply

Covid-Deniers have no facts.

reply

Same thing as talking out of their asses. They might as well throw away their education and license.

reply

That's just brilliant. Actually, according to science, no mask on planet earth will stop the transmission of a virus. So are we trusting the science or is that just something CNN told you to repeat???

reply

No safety measure is foolproof and I've never seen anyone claim the masks were. It's not an all or none proposition. Do the masks make you safe? No. Do the masks make you safer? Yeah. Unless you can pull out a cited study that says that masks do absolutely nothing there really isn't much else to say.

reply

No, we need no such study. Hazmat suits would make everyone 100% safe. Why isn't it mandated that we all wear Hazmat suits? The issue is what reasonable lengths do we take to limit the spread? It's irrelevant whether or not anyone can prove masks do absolutely nothing.

reply

A reduction of transmission is better than nothing. You could wear a PAPR if you wanted to completely stop transmission, but that is overkill.

reply

Masks are still a thing

They've been a thing for me even prior to COVID, thus this hasn't been much of a personal inconvenience . Only difference over the past two years has been that I'm having to wear one into the grocery store now, the movie theater, and the gas station. Whereas prior, I was only compelled to wear a mask when sneaking into the freshman girl's dormitory in the middle of the night, Bowie knife and masking tape in tow

reply

Masking tape? That seems a bit flimsy. I'd go with duct tape or zip ties instead.

Something to take under advisement, now that students are returning to campus. Adding a taser to my ensemble is a nifty idea worthy of exploration also, come to think of it

reply

I haven’t had as much as sniffle in over two years. Me loves me the masks. Disgusting human beings shouting and spraying their infectious mucus everywhere. Gross. I have no smile to share with them. Even when/if covid ends, I will mask up during cold and flu season every year. I had a cold on my wedding day and throughout my honeymoon thanks to a disgusting, sneezing, coughing, dirty, selfish co-worker. Wish I knew about masks back then.

reply

Did you wear your mask during the wedding consummation? ...assuming you consummated. Lost of germs and infectious bodily fluids involved there.

reply

Me - powder blue.
Wife - black
Daughter - cute ones for 7 year olds.

reply

Gay

reply

Gay?

reply

It is indeed, we still have COVID pandemic.

reply

What I don't get is that hardly anybody here in Sweden wears masks.
It is like people are ashamed to do so even though there's a pandemic going on.

reply

yeah well covid is stil a thing.
My local hospital has just "Declared an internal emergency" , due to amount of extra beds filled with covid , staff off due to covid , and a lack of rehab type places to eject the cured into , so they are still taking up beds.

reply

>not shown: the hospital in the next city with plenty of room

Remember this problem in NY hospitals and morgues? Same thing. Nearby facilities with lots of room. Recall how the military hospital ship sent to NY's coast and the park bivouac emergency overflow were provided within a day of the plea? Somehow neither were used at all. As though the problem suddenly went away ... or was being sensationalized.

Anyhow, I say stay safe and take it seriously but carry on. Carry on.

reply

New York has been doing nothing but scanning the U.S. government. All the thousands and thousands of people dieing there is a fabrication. Not true. Look for flu death statistics, probably none exist.

reply

If masks work so well then why aren't they working? Numbers are the same in mask-free areas.

I'll say this for them: They lend some confidence to the terrified so that they can get out and spend some money.

P.S. Coming soon: The scared ones tax the new parallel economy of the brave ones to pay for their inactivity while lashing them from some imagined moral high ground.

reply

It depends on the mask - FFP3 are superior to FFP2, which are better than the common blue pleated ones and so on.

reply

I know someone who was extremely careful and wore her top-of-the-line mask whenever out (one of those ones who wear the mask when alone in a car) and had both jabs. She still got the Rona. It's one of those situations where one can point to data, claim correlation, and claim it is proof. This applies to both sides of the vaccine war, I know. Correlation does not equal causation. If you didn't get sick and wore a mask, does that mean that the mask saved you? If you died after getting the "vaccine" does that mean that it was the cause?

What I do know is that infection numbers statistics seem to ignore mask prevalence and strength. Outside of mask inability to prevent the spread of influenza, one could debate the other pros vs cons. It does some small amount of good. Does that outweigh the respiratory issues creeping up on the population? That I don't know. Probably yes in the case of the economy. Regardless, it will all last until the next election here at least.

reply

I’m triple jabbed and wear a mask when mandated, so I follow the rules, but don’t go over and above that. Since COVID officially began I have been to Morocco, Adu Dhabi, Dubai, France and Egypt, in addition to travelling all over the UK.

The point I’m trying to make is, whilst I’m not a denier or conspiracy theorist, and yes it exists and can be fatal, so are a lot of things and I don’t believe that it’s as apocalyptic as the media makes out. For a truer barometer, just look at how the markets (FTSE 100 and Dow Jones) are behaving.

reply

I'm double jabbed (and no more) and also obey mask rules when I have to.

I feel pretty much the same.

reply

In the UK, a death is counted as a result of covid if someone dies within 28 days of a positive test. So, if I test positive and then immediately get run over and killed by a bus, then it goes down as a covid death, even though it was the bloody bus that killed me.

reply

Same over here. "Comorbidity." But insiders in hospitals are leaking that this protocol is ignored on many that have a vax pass on them. They don't want anyone getting the wrong idea so, y'know...

I want maximum reasonable safety for those at risk. I don't want to burn peanut farms to the ground because there are people with peanut allergies, though.

reply

Truth.

reply

just the hint of food shortages or other essentials would send the markets south in a big hurry.

reply

It would soon recover (it always does).

The FTSE rose by 1.63% today.

reply

i am not sure any of the indices reflect the real economy anymore. we have had two bad years with this pandemic and the markets are at record highs.

reply

My point exactly. The media will have you believe it’s the end of the world. I’m saying actually it’s not quite as bad as that and the markets agree.

reply

I wear 5 masks, goggles, welders gloves, a burka and have 14 vaccinations. I'm good till the next variant.

reply

This wins the Internet today! 🤣

reply

for gods sake man cover your feet !

reply

Dammit!! I was wondering why I've had COVID 34 times!!
