It's been a while since I curled up with an Agatha Christie mystery. I'm due.

I bought some Poirot and Miss Marple books at the supermarket for a very low price. Gonna start reading them next week.

reply

👍

I have some of the books on audio ( Poirot read by Hugh Fraser and Emilia Fox for Marple ) but mostly I watch the television series of Poirot and Miss Marple that I have plus a few of the stray mini-series like 'And Then There Were None'. I love all those beautiful little English villages and the scenery and how it always seems to be afternoon tea time. So very civilised, apart from all the murders.

Is this music-specific? If so, Lauryn Hill is my top female writer.

reply

Apparently it is, though the OP couldn’t be bothered to specify that.

Welcome to the Internet.

The Internet, huh? What a brave new world it is.

reply

Yes for music.

Scarlett - you know, you can edit your posts :)

But not for literacy.

It’s called “communicating.” Look into it.

Chrissie Hynde is a vastly underrated songwriter.

Kate Bush! 👍

Legend has it that her music teacher at school failed one of her assignments because she didn't believe that it was Kate Bush's own work!

reply

I believe it. The woman personifies creativity.

Wait a minute! Women can write now? When did this happen? Next thing you know, they'll be voting!

I'm really torn on this because I'm not exactly sure who actually writes their own stuff.

I would say Carole King, but so often if someone changes a word or two or adds an ooh they get writing credit. This isn't me knocking Dolly Parton, but she has been known to do that so she gets writing credit on all of her songs.
