Films where Girl Power is done the right way

Which films you think have done the girl Power thing right, without shoving feminism down to our throats.?

I’d say

The Devil wears Prada
Legally Blond
Clueless
Wonder Woman
The Avengers films with Black Widow and Scarlet Witch.
Erin Brockovitch.

Captain Marvel was very enjoyable with a flawed lead that learned to harness her powers for good

Valeria from Conan The Barbarian sought romance and companionship but could very clearly kick your ass if she needed to

Dana Skully from the X-Files was a constant tough girl and cynic (despite being in a battle with a sludge monster or ghost every week!) who made her own calls

There are probably many more examples, I'll think on it

reply

Yeah. I'm not one of these people who goes around accusing everyone who criticizes certain movies of being an alt right incel misogynist but I didn't think Captain Marvel was too bad. Danvers gets hassled a bit for being one of the first female fighter pilots, but it's not one of these things in which all the men are either villains or pathetic. I didn't think they overdid that. It was a solid Marvel movie.

That all probably had something to do with Captain Marvel making about a billion.

Serenity (2005)

Summer Glau as River Tam. A beautiful killing machine and mad as a hatter with it.

She swallowed a bug! :-)

A league of their own...awesome movie!

Jackie Brown was a total badass, I wanted her and Max Cherry to wind up together...Alas...

reply

Jackie brown 👍

reply

Buffy was a great example of that, although that’s a TV series.

reply

IT WAS A MOVIE FIRST...AND BUFFY WAS A BADASS IN BOTH.

reply

Buffy is by joss Whedon no ?

Never saw Buffy but well it’s clear in the first Avengers film he had experience in creating very good female characters. That he wasn’t a newbie at all and years working with that show helped him to make great moments for Black Widow.
Especially her first scene where she was interrogating the Russians

reply

Based on the recent threads we've been talking in, I think you would really like Buffy. Maybe also Alias?

reply

The first round of X-Men films.

"Wonder Woman".

And not a movie, but "Game of Thrones". In a sexist society, the female characters use whatever means of power is at their disposal - from dragons to sword work to sewing.

reply

Since they coined the phrase I guess it's only right we mention Spice World.

That was a really great movie. Powerful and moving. zig-a-zig-aaaah!!

reply

Curse you time difference! I was going to type that, but you beat me to it whilst I was asleep, lol.

reply

😂
I beat King to a quip? This calls for one of his trademark (not so) random emojis

reply

I'm totally making 'Random Emoji Time' a thing, lol.

It’s one of my greatest guilty pleasures in film. I’m sure every girl who was fan of that group loved that movie even though it was really bad.
