Germans make the best beer

Hands down

reply

Belgium

reply

The only one I have tried is Stella Artois which I found to be ordinary tasted like Aussie beer.

reply

I love Belgian fruit beers!

reply

The same vote for Belgium.

reply

i agree

reply

agreed

reply

German beer is good, but I have to say my favourite beers are American. Bud and Miller are my Top 2.

I found Bintang beer quite easy to drink on my recent holiday in Bali too. Smooth and refreshing.

Not so fond of local Australian beer. Crown Lager is probably the best. Victorian Bitter (VB), which is one of the most popular, is not too dissimilar to cat urine in my opinion. Don't even mention Fosters, it might be Aussie by origin but there's a reason we ship it all over to the UK haha

reply

I kind of class some American beers as German as the creators would most likely have a German background. I like Bud and Miller a lot.

I'm Aussie and don't think much of Aussie beer either, VB is awful and harsh. All the craft beers are kind of "meh" too.

reply

Yeah I agree. Although have you tried James Squire 150 Lashes? Not a bad brew.

reply

Haven't tried any of his however his beer names sound interesting.

reply

150 Lashes is the only one I've tried. It's a bit fruity but smooth and easy to drink. Not unlike bud really, similar pale ale, just a little sweeter.

reply

My favorite is Yuengling. I used to enjoy Michelob, but it's hard to find now other than the Light version.

reply

Bud man here also.

reply

Canadians make fun at Bud.

reply

I like Labatt Blue

reply

They can have their Strange Brew then! 😀

reply

You've obviously never had Irish beer. Kilkennys is beer the way it was always meant to be.

reply

Yes. Killkenny's the best. Also Guiness.

reply

Guinness >>>> Murphy's > Kilkenny's

(I said)

reply

Nah, Guinness gives you the runs.

reply

Germany is definitely a top contender, but I'm going to have to vote for the United States. The microbrew industry has absolutely exploded the last decade and theres tons of innovation out there.

reply

Here in lowly Reno the micro-brewery industry is quite something. Really great beer of many styles is made here.

reply

Germany is definitely a top contender, but I'm going to have to vote for the United States.

US is known for having a really bad beer.

reply

At one time, yes. As Eric Idle said, American beer is like making love in a canoe. It is fucking close to water.

But that is no longer true.

reply

Our massed produced beer like Budweiser and Coors is pretty bad, but as of last year, there were roughly 6,266 Microbreweries, which make excellent beers of all varieties.

reply

I like Bud and Coors. I prefer Bud between the two.

reply

I drink Coors Banquet all the time. Not a fan of light beers.

And right now, I have a Narragansett Lager in my hand.

reply

I checked and I must confess it's surprising

https://www.statista.com/chart/4001/the-countries-with-the-most-craft-breweries/

However, for some reason, you don't see a few very good microbreweries evolving into full breweries. Now I think about that, that's kind of usual status quo last years in western countries: a lot of star-ups and people trying to innovate, but they stay small, they don't grow.

reply

Opinions aside, there's a reason why Japanese beer is modeled after German brewing methods.

reply

And their whiskey can be compared to the very best scotch

reply

Any potable liquid can be compared the very best scotch. That doesn't mean that it's anything close in quality to the very best scotch.

reply

I'll take your word but thought Suntory had a good reputation

https://www.thrillist.com/drink/nation/suntory-yamazaki-50-year-japanese-whisky-most-expensive-whiskey

reply

Suntory is a brand of whiskey so excellent that it acquired Jack Daniels. Doesn't mean it compares to the best scotch

reply

Jack Daniels is owned by Brown-Forman, an American corporation (undetected sarcasm?).

I'm not a scotch connoisseur, so, off topic, what are your favorite scotches?

reply

My mistake. Suntory owns Jim Beam, Makers Mark and related brands. Jack Daniels is a decent well shot.

As far as proper scotch goes: Glenfiddich, Tamdhu, Glengoyne, and Macallan isn't too bad either.

reply

One thing is certain...in 50 years...high end scotch whiskies will still be hard to spell.

reply

After the third drink I can't taste any of it...just keep it coming

reply

That's why I'm a vodka drinker

reply

Rum here but good call
I just tend to go a bit Rambo/violent looney on vodka so I avoid it...Vodka gets me twisted:/

reply

I cannot drink a martini...it does what you say...but otherwise it is my alcohol of choice.

reply

Whilst I love German beer, my all time favourite is Tsing Tao (Chinese).

reply

A very crisp, clean, tasty lager

reply

And very drinkable, maybe too much so, lol.

reply

Interesting. I'll have a walk to the Chinatown in my city and look for it.

reply

I hope you like it.

reply

Germans and Czechs make the best lager.

Other types of beers is a different matter.
