Is the musical the worst genre?

I can't think of anything that comes close to how bad it is. Random singing and dancing in the middle of scenes. 9 times out of 10, the song sucks too.

reply

No sports movies.

reply

check out Raging Bull.

reply

👍

reply

Or Bull Durham.

reply

another good one

reply

I've seen it. It was okayish

reply

Sports movies aren't great, but at least there's Raging Bull, The Hustler, Rocky, Miracle, Million Dollar Baby, The Fighter, The Damned United, Rush, and The Wrestler. I even like comedies like Talladega Nights and Happy Gilmore (only one of two decent Adam Sandler films)

reply

There are more entertaining musicals.

reply

why don't they make more if them?

reply

Because apparently people think they're outdated.

Why don't they make more sports movies?

reply

plenty of sports related movies in the past 5-10 years
I,Tonya
Creed
Battle of the Sexes
Borg vs McEnroe
Race
Southpaw
Concussion
Unbroken
42
Rush
Trouble With The Curve

reply

Succesful? Not many.

It's not like they don't make musicals anymore. Disney movies, for example, both animated and live action. La La Land. The Greatest Showman. Les Misérables. That Pitch Perfect crap. 3D animation shit like Trolls. A Star is Born, Bohemian Rhapsody, Rocketman and Yesterday are also music films.

reply

Music movies are fine. I watched BR and it's a drama built around a singer.

reply

So musical films are still being made. People are still willing to sit down for 2 hours seeing other people perform songs.

No, mine just had lemon and Grand Marnier in it. But next time I'll make a nasty cake with boogers especially for you, just like your mother always did!

reply

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFlCD5CYAcU Sounds like the perfect complement to the "turd in the punch bowl."

reply

[deleted]

BR is a biopic like I Walk The Line (Johnny Cash) and Ray (Ray Charles). They are not musicals.

reply

What's the difference, really? You sit down for 2 hours watching other people sing songs. If you like the music and the story, it's good. If you don't like the music and the story, it's not good.

reply

cause people don't sing-talk in real life.

reply

[deleted]

Bohemian Rhapsody

reply

I disagree. I do it all the time myself. But since when do movies have to be 100% realistic?

Besides, what are songs all about? Since when do we need musical instruments and a melody to tell a story? Right, it's entertainment, just like musicals are.

We already know you don't like musicals, Mitch, but that doesn't mean other people don't like them either. They certainly don't seem to be less popular than sports movies.

reply

I did watch Chicago a few years back. I think that was the last one.

reply

I did not like Chicago.

reply

neither did I 👍

reply

[deleted]

I've always hated this movie.

reply

I love musicals. I wish my life had random singing and dancing.

reply

Enchanted

The King and I

West Side Story

Essentially all of the Disney Princess films, which have kept the musicalE (for that is the name for the stage genre) alive.

Funny Face

The genre may not appeal to you. That’s fair. So do you prefer torture porn, or are you just limited in your apprehension of all the different genres?

This is obviously intended for the OP.

reply

[deleted]

If you think his opinion and preference is " fair, " then why do you feel a need to immediately follow that up with a cheap, demeaning and condescending shot?

reply

I don't consider torture porn a main genre. It would fall more under horror. It would be like saying slasher is a main genre.

To me, musicals break that fourth wall. With the exception of Chicago, the music doesn't seem to progress the story. It diverts from the main narrative and draws attention away from the pacing.

I'm sure you have me on your 'ignore list' but I'll offer you this simple suggestion...Stop being so negative in every post, it's very off-putting and quite frankly, you just come off as mean and nobody likes that

Nobody hates you here and some (myself included) find some value and points of interest in your posts...
I've dealt with you for 2 years now Kane...You've 'ignored' me for most of that time but whatever, I've actually posted nice things about you but you have me blocked:/

Grow some balls and erase your silly 'ignore list...'
Why would anyone 'ignore' anyone else here...These posters are super polite!
You miss out on a lot of good conversations because you block everyone

If you don't unblock me , best wishes Kane...I guess we can't be friends but no harm, no foul
I do feel like your traffic and convo could help out our site...I guess this is our final exchange,

Cheers Amigo🍺🍸 (that's a beer for me and a Martini for you, you seem like a Martini guy to me)

nice try 😊

reply

I meant every word Hombre...if he didn't take this all so seriously he could be a fun dude

Oh well, I really did try there but it seems his door is closed and locked...our loss I suppose

I just dislike bad feelings...I do hope Kane is well, he's an oddball but I like the guy (even if he hates me lol!)

reply

I appreciate your attempt and I hope he does take your advice.

reply

Thanks, I hope so too
We're probably all a bit too old for dopey grudges

Dirty Dancing? Blues Brothers?

Two teens trapped in a movie musical, Teen Beach Movie.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_-OCK752pE

reply

Teen Beach Movie looks awful.

reply

It's a cross between "Beach Blanket Bingo" and "West Side Story" with a 60s sound track. A little campy, some romance, surfing and humor.

This movie would be like a horror film for you since the teens are trying to escape from the movie musical where they're trapped.

reply

9 times out of 10, you're correct.

"The Rocky Horror Picture Show" and "The Wizard of Oz" are exceptions.

reply

No, l have no problem with musicals in general. Some of them are really nice.

reply

I adore musicals. A good musical is enchanting! And most of the bad ones are fun, too.

But then, I like opera.
