The best decision you've made in your life?

Mine is to downsize and live as a minimalist, and to live in accordance with the old stoics. Been living like this for five years and I really recommend it.

What's yours?

reply

I would have thought yours was “buying Bitcoins”.

reply

It hasn't brought me real happiness. Changing my mindset did. I'm very grateful for my fortune and luck, but I owe my joy and happiness to minimalism and stoicism, not money.

reply

Makes sense. Speaking of mindset, I think gratitude itself is the key to happiness.

reply

I heartily agree, TexasJack!

reply

An excellent thought, Jack.

Ha! Not bad! 'Tis is a good site I agree!

reply

I guess internet access is considered minimalist.

reply

lol
Slayed it

reply

WITH ALL DUE RESPECT, I don’t see any conflict between minimalism and having internet access. I think the nature and ubiquity of the internet have made it a basic component of society at this point.

reply

Ted Kaczynski never had internet

reply

Good point ! A genius, eluding the FBI for two decades, building his bombs in a dilapidated hut deep in the woods.

reply

Still a nut job though.

😎

reply

Definitely a genius.. Not crazy at all. 99% of the people who say that never read a thing he did, and I'm guessing most of that 99% just repeat whatever is "trending now"!

reply

He was diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic by several psychiatrists.

reply

I don't see mental illness as all or nothing... there are varying degrees of every characteristic.. Those psychiatrists are paid to say that.

Remember, the government involved him (and other Harvard students) with LSD testing (MK-Ultra) -- he had every right to be suspicious.

reply

Exactly ! A genius (e.g. John Nash, Alan Turing) is not supposed to have an id, a lower nature, a dark side like every other human being ?

reply

Kaczynski killed and injured people.

reply

2.. the military killed a ton more in the time I typed that - for no reason - based on lies

reply

i see what you did there you!

reply

I think it can. I don't have dusty physical files anymore. I can access on my phone what used to take up meters of shelf space. I don't keep physical manuals, music media, movies etc anymore. My book collection only consists of a few first editions and nostalgia. All thanks to the internet!

reply

When I left alcohol and drugs. That's a decision I make every week. vicious circle.

reply

Keep fighting the good fight.

reply

What does that mean exactly? english isn't my first language and when ever I hear that phrase it just sounds kinda weird, lol. ok, I know thats a positive thing but still.strange phrase.

reply

Just another trite expression that some Americans are prone to. 🙄

reply

It’s just encouragement for confronting difficult circumstances. And it’s “trite”, apparently.

reply

I say that a lot
I think you and i are 'trite'
Who knew?

reply

Hang in there! (another American phrase)
