A fun thread about song lyrics that you may have misheard.

I'll start with a guy I knew a long time ago who used to be in a pool league.
He always wore a "Pool Shark" hat.

Whenever he heard The Police sing Every Breath You Take and heard the lyric
"My poor heart aches" he thought they were saying "I'm a pool hall ace" and would point
to his hat and get a shitty grin on his face. Still cracks me up.

I remember seeing a YouTube video with lyrics, and they wrote "grave" instead of "gray." That poster took a lot of grief for her mistake. She spent far too much time ranting back that she now realized the mistake. I kept wondering why she didn't just fix it or take it down.

I only just recently discovered it's "on the grey" and not "on the grave"!!

I think it was just about a month ago, something on TV, and I saw the lyrics. I could hardly believe I've spent the last what is it, 25 years? - singing "kiss from a rose on the grave".... facepalm.

And yeah, if that didn't make sense, now I really don't know what a "rose on the grey is....

"The grey" symbolizes the dark, gloomy side of himself he describes earlier in the song. This person coming into his life is like his dark side getting a kiss from a rose and lighting up.

That makes sense - I think I never really paid attention to all of the lyrics, if I had I would have realized, I feel silly now, lol.

For some reason this isn't a song I ever really listened to the lyric of. I'm not sure why.

I don't think there is a single Mick Jagger vocal (well, there might be a couple) where I understand the whole thing perfectly.
