I felt the start of Marvel Fatigue

just a little maybe or maybe Joker Raised the bar

reply

Joker was ok Endgame was better

reply

Jesus! You just can't bring yourself to giving DC any kind of praise even when it genuinely earned it just out of spite...well here's something to chew on, awhile back YouTube did a video where they compared Joker's and Thanos' history, motivation, back story, opposing protagonist, and popularity and in the end Joker beat out Thanos...so don't except a solo Thanos film any time soon, suck on that Marvel dick rider, LOL!

reply

Joker was good but i enjoyed end game more , it was an epic CBM, joker was more of a thriller than a cbm, it was good though , the edgy dceu fans will of course love it , oh and erm , thanos is in eternals, and i dont care for YouTube videos made by whiny man babies.

Iam inevitable....game set match

reply

Joker ftw.

reply

Joker isn't Marvel. Besides all their movies released in 2019 made over a billion dollars. There's no fatigue happening just yet.

reply

Maybe, or maybe not. People was going to stick to the end of the cycle, that was clear. After 10 years of movies, nobody was going to miss the last one.

Next cycle, that could be a completely different story. Eternals and Shang-Chi are gonna be the new cycle litmus test.

Joker was a mediocre movie with assorted moments of high quality. It is regarded above its station by the Entitled Aggrieved crowd.

Endgame was enjoyable but loaded with bad writing and signs of how different/worse the coming phase will be.

I am pretty much done with Marvel but not for the reasons they will craft the narrative around. They'll say that people left them because of the main actors leaving, general hero-movie fatigue, or that Endgame was the ending in people's minds. They won't ever think the exodus is from bad writing/choices.

I'll watch Wonder Woman 84 and Dr Strange 2. Absolutely nothing else coming sounds good. I would love to think that DC is on its way up but we'll see. Joker was not the amazing film some say and Wonder Woman was mostly good by comparison to how terrible DC has been. Shazam gives me hope for DC's future. I didn't think that the "darkness" was ever a problem for DC. It was always quality of writing/directing. So Shazam wasn't great because it was bright and lighthearted. It was simply well done. May DC keep its upward trajectory. Marvel seems on the downward for sure. Look at this film, for instance.

I have a feeling this movie could cause problems.

Marvel decided to go with a set of characters and story that few know. I'm a huge comic fan and don't even know much about this group. Thanos' family was part of it but he won't be in it.

People LOVE the characters they know and no one loves the Eternals. The past success was because the movies are good, but also because people walked in knowing a lot of the story to begin with. So, this will need an awesome story and highly charismatic actors to succeed.

I am skeptical.

reply

Mmmmm...deja vu

Oh, I remember: the same thing was said about Guardians of the Galaxy

reply

I didn't say that.

While the whole Marvel saga was going on, you could have released a Marvel film about Mighty Mouse and it would have been massive. I disliked Guardians because it was stupid with stupid characters. But, I saw it because I might miss some element about the other films.

Eternals is not going to have that going for it.

reply

Exactly. You got the point. Guardian came out when we were at the peak of Marvel-mania. Eternals will come out after Endgame, which was...a endgame. The new MCU wont have the same success of the previous one. Maybe when they will release the new X-Men and Fantastic Four they will be go great again, but in this period in which they have Black Panther,Captain Marvel,Spiderman that is only Iron Man junior, etc. they wont have great success.

reply

Guardians of the Galaxy happened to be probably the best movie in the Marvel franchise. That was lighting in a bottle.

reply

Hmm

reply

Just now? I've had superhero fatigue since Avengers: Age of Ultron.

reply

So how many of the films after Age Of Ultron did you see? Just curious.

reply

What does that mean?

reply

He says he has had superhero fatigue since Avengers: Age Of Ultron. Being kind of curious about his statement, I am just wondering if he actually stopped watching them after Ultron or just likes to rant about the movies.

reply

So, after AoU, from the MCU, I've seen Doctor Strange and Infinity War.

Doctor Strange I saw in a movie theatre (remember those?) but it was the selection of other people. I didn't resent going or gripe about it or anything, but for the sake of the conversation, I'm pointing out that it was a social outing, not my own personal film selection. Most of the film I found forgettable/dull/retreading old ground. I did like the final fight with Dormammu because it wasn't just "KA-BOOM, PEW-PEW!" but required self-sacrifice and slyness from Strange.

Infinity War I watched via streaming service at home. It was also selected as a movie evening by somebody else. Again: I didn't resent this or whine, but I'm pointing out that neither film was selected by me; both were viewed as a "together activity", not because I was seeking them out. I thought Infinity War was unbelievably dull and I continue to describe the plot as: "Will Thanos complete his rock collection or not!?" for three ****ing hours.

And with regards to your reply to Crocodile there, I have more-or-less stopped watching them, but I do like to rant about movies.

reply

Your opinion, not mine.

reply

That's why I thought it would be better if I posted it instead of you.

reply

Fair points. I do wonder how you ended up on a message board about Eternals when you have little interest in Marvel movies though.

reply

Sometimes I check out what's trending just to keep my fingers on the pulse of what's showing up. I also do try to be open-minded when reading about upcoming projects. I don't have a "I am done with Marvel!" rule or anything, it's just a general feeling of boredom about it. If a trailer showed up that looked like a new, unique direction for the franchise - one that was interesting - I would check it out. If I didn't watch movies that interested me just because of the brand name association, I think that'd be chopping off my nose to spite my face, if I've got the adage correct.

reply

I was already feeling it about five Marvel movies ago.
