Why did it get made?

Why was this movie made

reply

Aside from hoping for a cash in on Margot Robbie's appeal of the moment, I think the film was basically a place holder to keep the "Suicide Squad verse" of DC alive until Gunn gets the next film launched. It's not a strategy I disagree with. It never mattered if this movie was good or bad or made money or not. Keep the characters in the public consciousness, introduce a bunch of new characters to work with in the future. This is still just DC struggling to get some world building going on. I should imagine it's much cheaper to make these than the Superman/Batman films. This is the desperate age of content, Content, CONTENT! These streaming services aren't gonna fill themselves.

I wonder if they combined this with Gotham City Sirens, how it'd fare?

reply

These are very good points, the average attention span of a millennial is 8 seconds; the attention span of a princel is even less. They have to churn these out to keep the character$ in the public consciousness, regardless of the quality of the product.

reply

Thanks for your response. I like your theory.

reply

Because Harley Quinn is a popular and interesting enough character on her own to make a movie about.

reply

I disagree. Harley Quinn is a sidekick character, and in no way is a character worth giving the responsibility of leading a film.

Even in the animated series cartoon and the Batman Arkham video games, she was nails on a chalkboard annoying.

Love Margot Robbie though. She’ll bounce back.

reply

She does work better as a sidekick, but she is still worthy enough to have a solo movie of her own imo.

reply

Obviously not.

reply

Suicide Squad was trash. No characters in there deserve to have a movie made about them

reply

Margot's vanity project

reply

PLENTY OF FANS OUT THERE...IF YOU DONT LIKE IT,THATS FINE..WE ENJOY MARGOT AND HARLEY THOUGH.

I AM AN IDIOT FOR WHAT EXACTLY?

reply

For not realizing your caps lock is on, first and foremost.

reply

I REALIZE,I JUST DONT CARE WHAT AGGRESSIVE STRANGERS HAVE TO SAY ABOUT IT...FURTHERMORE I WAS CALLED AN IDIOT FOR NOT HATING A MOVIE.IS THAT WHAT YOU ARE JUMPING IN ON?..PRETTY JUVENILE AND AWKWARD.

reply

I'm just saying caps lock just distracts from trying to be meaningful.

BTW, if you're name is Kowalski, I have to figure you're a Penguins fan. Nothing moronic about that.

Kat Dennings would have been better

reply

LMAO..YOU REALLY LOVE KAT.

reply

Because Robbie wanted it made..

reply

Well if that's the case she just shot her wad on a turd, not going to make it any easier to get the next project she takes a shine to getting a greenlight. I expected she would be a quick burn but I didn't expect her to fizzle out quite as quickly as she appears to be fizzling.

This is the exact question I've been asking from the moment they announced Birds Of Prey was being made into a movie. WHY?!? Here's how many comic book fans and comic book movie fans were yearning for a Birds Of Prey movie - 0.
This movie was made because some Hollywood idea man said "Hey, Harley Quinn is a very popular character, so let's build a whole movie around her!" And all his sycophants nodded emphatically, praising the genius of his vision, even though not a one of them knew a damn thing about Harley Quinn. Someone should have told them that she's only a sidekick to the Joker and that's how most people recognize her.
I hope Warner Brothers is prepped to lose lots of money. Idiots!
