Todd Phillips Left Comedy to Make ‘Joker’ Because ‘Woke Culture’ Ruined the Genre

Oh, comedic hacks are red pilling? Awww, poor babies! George Burns, Milton Berle and Jack Benny were able to last decades in comedy. How did they manage to do it, when they had to work under far more restrictive conditions? At one point, you could actually be arrested on obscenity charges for using profanity and talking about stuff like anal sex, and yet all of these comics worked cradle to grave without any problems. What was that all about?

BTW, no one's red pilling. They're blue pilling. If these comedians were red pilling, they'd be waking up to the cruel, harsh reality that all that's happening is that just like vaudeville, ventriloquism and musical parody, their time has past. Older comics realized that this was always a possibility (that they would one day become dated). It's why they would stop doing stand up at some point and break into acting or TV/movie direction (for example, Pryor teaming up with Gene Wilder, Redd Foxx doing TV, Dangerfield breaking into movies, Steve Martin writing plays, etc.).

Todd Phillips is a moron doing the same thing as every comedian before him whose time has run out, but instead of just admitting, "Look, my comedy is old and dated, so I have to move on to something else," would rather contribute to the growing toxicity of today's culture by pandering to this bullshit idea that "woke culture" is "killing comedy." It's just so much easier to do that than to admit that you're a comedy has-been whose shtick a new generation couldn't care less about.

He's also a hypocrite. I'm old enough to remember when this shitty brand of edge lord comedy was brand new. The whole point of it was to piss off the PC Crowd and laugh at all the pearl clutchers gasping with shock and outrage at what they were saying, for everyone to go, "Haha, look at these feminist bitched get all mad. Look at these minorities get all mad. Isn't it funny?"

They were all loving this idea of offending everyone as long as they got paid. Now all of a sudden, it's a problem when the checks stop coming. And now they're playing victims, acting as if all they were doing was harmless, inoffensive comedy the entire time and that it's unfair how blacks, women, Asians, etc. are getting mad at their "innocent" jokes, when 10-20 years ago, they were more than happy to offend them if it meant laughing at how angry and upset they got.

On the contrary, the comedy world is filled with hacks who don't actually tell jokes anymore, like Chapelle "joking" that he "doesn't believe in abortion," Tracy Morgan saying that he'd kill his son if he was gay, or that guy who just got fired from SNL who called Chinese ch*nks. Apparently, all it takes to be a comedian these days is to just call yourself one, grab a mike and then just say whatever you want with a shit-eating edge lord grin without actually telling a joke, then play the victim when everyone gets angry at you. No actual jokes. No set up, no punch line. No delivery. Just, "Why are gays such f*gs, tee hee hee? Aw, what are you PC cucks getting mad about? It's just a joke."

Thank God I grew up in another era when we actually had comedians who used to actually tell jokes and be funny.
