Brad Pitts accent was hokey
I’m not even for the South but I can hear all syllables he says that are without accent, which reveal it to be phoney.
DiCaprio’s sounds a little hammy at times but it’s much more consistent.

Where was the character supposed to be from? Pitt is from Oklahoma
shareSounded like a bad impersonation of a Texan accent.
shareI'll bet Texans say that about all Oklahoman accents, lol
shareI've lived in Mississippi and Texas for most of my life. I've known tons of people from Oklahoma. I've heard real people with Pitt's accent on a regular basis. Intothenight is either a troll or somebody who thinks he knows more about genuine accents than he does.
shareLouisiana here and I’ve heard that accent many times.
shareI think any Pitt fan knows this was far from his best performance. But his character in this had been living and working in Hollywood for many years. That could certainly have an effect on your accent.
shareIn that case, I'm not a Pitt fan because I find this to be his finest work to date. The chemistry between him and DiCaprio is magical.
shareI just watched Fury this evening. It's not a great movie. But he's far better in that movie than he was in this.
shareYeah, because no true Scotsman...
But I'm kinda lying.. Well, more "forget a film", namely 12 Monkeys. That's his absolute best. But here, I totally forgot that it was Brad Pitt.
Cliff and Rick were both affected from acting in westerns for so many years, became an exaggerated habit. (Perhaps?)
sharehis accent in IG (2009) was also pretty bad.
meh he was a stunt double not an actor remember.

Mr. Pitt is from Missouri and even though he doesn’t actually talk like that in real life.....he’s been around those that do... so I say he did a great job with that accent having grown up around hillbillies. I’m an Okie and I can do a mean Oklahoma accent having grown up in that environment.
