Multicultural nonsense... black lead.... for white women to admire...

Hope it bombs.

I'm not exactly woke. Indeed, it's the opposite: I heavily dislike wokes. But I'm afraid I'm gonna disagree with this thread.

I think historic matters.

The problem in nazi movies was not that a couple of movies portrayed a Jew as a disgusting character, but that Jews were systematically portrayed as disgusting characters. The same, the problem with woke Hollywood is not that a few movies had a black lead, but that white males are portrayed as disgusting negative characters (cucks or psychopaths) while non-white and females are systematically portrayed with positive characteristics.

Nolan is one of the very few western directors that didn't go woke, not until now at least. Could this movie be a symptom of Nolan going woke? Yeap, it could be. Or it simply could be that he used a black lead. Historic matters. If Nolan hasn't gone woke until now, let's not jump to conclusions because he used a black lead in one movie.

reply

Why not an Asian lead? Western society loves to put blacks on a pedestal. Not interested in seeing a black lead... had enough of this rubbish.

reply

Hollywood still doesn't like to cast Asian leads in action movies, unless it's some stereotypical Kung Fu stuff. And romance between an Asian male lead and a white woman? Almost never.

reply

Hollywood doesn't cast Asians unless there is a deal to get profits in China then they'll happily bring one aboard and censor anything China demands. Actually maybe that's the whole reason why most movies don't have many Asians in it, because of China. They don't want any other Asians to appear unless it's Chinese. By Asian I mean not in the UK sense since they consider East Indian and other parts of Asia as Asian. I'm talking South Korea or Japan similar features. Sure they're more of a minority (6%?) than blacks (13%) but heck I think blacks get portrayed more than hispanics which are a larger minority (18%?).

reply

The key element is that East-Asians are successful. In general wokeness is a celebration of ethnic groups that are despised because of their lack of diligence and their high crime index. The most successful an ethnic group is, the less likely they'll be worshiped by Wokes.

That's why Blacks are considered the New Chosen People in the Woke book, followed at some distance by Hispanics and Muslims, and with East-Asians being almost as low considered as White males.

reply

I don't think Muslims are worshiped by wokes yet. In fact.... I'm not sure they ever will be, since they do not abide by the the whole females are goddesses concept, in fact.... in hard core muslim countries, females are often used as property.

reply

I get your point but Asians aren't good actors. Those who do well are often mixed race.

Those with small eyes are at a disadvantage to convey emotions to a western audience.

Unless the emotion is looking tense, like Ken Watanabe is good at conveying, they're not versatile enough.

reply

Racist much? I'm glad the lead is black. I'm looking forward to seeing the film and I hope it is a huge hit and there are many more films with black actors in lead roles (just to trigger ignorant racists like you).

reply

I like it. Denzel 2.0. who wouldn't want that? If it was Denzel in his prime you wouldn't be saying shit. Give mini Denzel a chance.

reply

I don't like him either. I don't like any black actors. I tend to like watching historical films of the past because there tends not to be blacks in them. I don't listen to any kind of black artists too. I don't like hip hop or rap.

reply

Wow

reply

Racist.

reply

I'm still not completely sure if this isn't a white supremacist, "anti woke" parody.

reply

I actually think he's a woke guy trying to play the "evil racist white supremacist". Not parodying, I think he tries to play an exaggerated but what would be (for him) a realistic version. Of course, "realistic" according to the idea wokes have about people who criticize wokeness.

I have argued with him a couple of times.

In one thread, I can't find it now, I told him straight-forward that I thought he was a woke guy playing the "evil white supremacist". I haven't changed my mind.

reply

Aahhahahahhahahhhahah.

reply

You don't like Hip hop or rap what about old school rock n roll? Blues music? Blacks are known for better music than rap.

reply

I like some Elvis songs. It doesn't matter what the genre of music is, if the artist is black, I don't want to to listen to it. I don't like black voices.

reply

You missing out they have a lot of good music.

reply

"I tend to like watching historical films of the past"

As opposed to historical films of the future?

reply

I don't think he is the lead because he is black. This ain't affirmative action. He is fit as fuck, used to be a pro footballer. This movie demanded a fit lead. I'm sick of people saying any movie that has a black lead of pandering. If any complaints are to be had it should be of Hollywood nepotism.

reply

I don't think he's the lead because he's black. Nolan has not pledged to woke commandments yet, so he deserves the benefit of the doubt.

Besides that, Nolan is very good getting actors with a lot of presence in the screen. Denzel Washington has been probably the best black lead in movies's history, even better than Sidney Poiter. If this guy has only half the talent of his father, he's gonna be very good.

Given the precedents in woke Hollywood, it's logical people are weary and suspicious. However, I think that's unfair in this particular case.

reply

I agree.

reply

SP had great screen presence too.

reply

The trailer looks good, I'm excited about it. The only thing is his voice on the trailer does not seem that strong to me. Maybe it won't matter as much in the movie, but I think movies need the actors to have really compelling voices. The stony facial expression does not bother me. Keanu Reeves always had a pretty fixed facial expression and it was fine. You just need the plot to be compatible with it.

I think we need to beef up the pipeline of our action hero actors so I am happy to see new people getting opportunities.

reply

To me he sounds exactly like his dad.

reply

I'll have to compare now, and see whether I agree.

I wonder if we'll get to see this in the theatre in my area. I haven't found any drive-ins near me.

reply

It showing near me in theatres on the 22nd. I just got back from seeing Inception 10th anniversary showing and there was a whole rigamarole about tenet at the start.

reply

I've never read anything so racist 🙆

reply

It's almost refreshing to see these losers just letting their pathetic white supremacist insecurities laid bare instead of their usual lame attempts to hide it behind the premise of being against extreme political correctness or "anti-SJW"

reply

Who the fuck cares??? Black men have been leads in scores of films. Get over it man....smh...

reply

it is sad people still have these odd hang ups, isn't it?

To be COMPLETELY honest, I never thought even once about the color of the lead... UNTIL I saw then post, then thought, "Hey, look at that! I guess I am not even remotely racist. Cool." So he's black. Who cares?

The whole movie world can't always be about us white guys. Movies should be entertaining PLOT WISE to start everything.

reply

Yep.. He is one fine black lead!
