5 Reasons Why ‘Terminator: Dark Fate’ Misfired at the Box Office With $70 Million-Plus Loss

Guess where "too woke" is on this list? You get 5 guesses!

#1 is "“Joker” is still going strong". So is Maleficent! At least they include "They killed John, You bastards".

Anyway, multiple sites reporting T:DF will lose $100m.

I hope they lost money due to some refunds after the opening sequence lol

reply

Skip that and read the comments section for the truth. LOL

reply

Maybe because “too woke” had shit to do with it.

Hate on it all you want, but the feedback from general audiences has been good. It stands at 85% in RT.

The real problem is that after three divisive sequels (the last two being pretty bad), people were not enthused with this one.

And it’s a shame, because it is a good movie.

reply

You're practically the only poster on this board defending this movie. Either everyone but you is a troll on this board or you're simply part of a vocal minority who loved it. Which sounds more likely?

reply

Actually, its the other way around. User ratings for Terminator: Dark Fate are generally positive, while people in the forums and comments are the one’s hating it.

All evidence point to the haters being the loud minority.

reply

I guess that explains the 28 mil box office.

And D-ratings don't sound so great to me.

reply

85% RT user approval. That’s a win, no matter what.

The box office failure was already explained. The three previous screwups led people to not watch this one.

But of those that did, most liked it.

reply

$28 million box office. Money is what matters here--not artificially-inflated RT scores.

You lose credibility right there with RT reference.

I guess this film just went over people's heads, right?

reply

Lol, as if you are in any position to judge credibility.

RT user credit is very credible and has been used by a films haters in the past when the score is bad. You can’t have it both ways.

You are just gonna have to accept the fact that this film is well liked and that it only failed in he box office because people were cynical due to the failure of the previous three installments.

reply

Well metacritic has a 3.9 user rating from almost 300 reviews.
Never saw this discrepancy before between the two sites.Something Is fishy.

reply

People said the same thing about Ghostbusters 2016.

RT stands for Russian Trolls, comrade!
Only credible review agrigator: https://www.metacritic.com/movie/terminator-dark-fate

Is it really a good movie? This guy at my work went to see it and he said that it was terrible! In fact he's even now revisionistly declared that Genisys "wasn't that bad"!!

I just don't know who's opinion to trust - some random dude on the net or the guy at work...

reply

I don’t know what to make of your comment. You don’t have to trust me, lol. I am just commenting my opinion on the movie. Whether you see it or not is irrelevant to me.

reply

It's simple folks--it simply didn't appeal to the "youngs" (only 400 of 26,000 ratings on IMDB are under 29). (Nor did it appeal to this "old" who's tired of special-effects blockbusters and am not feeling a lot of nostalgia to see an aged Hamilton or Shwarzenegger.)

reply

I think you may be right. It looks like critics like it, and the audience rating is high, so clearly people who are watching it are enjoying it. The problem seems to be getting people to watch it. I watched and enjoyed the first two Terminator films. I think I've seen two more since then, and at this point I'm highly unlikely to pay to see a Terminator film in a theater. Even now that I see this one getting such positive reviews and feedback, I'm just not all that into those sorts of action spectacles anymore.

reply

Bingo! That’s exactly what I’ve been saying. The movie is enjoyable and people who actually see it are enjoying it.

reply

Well despite all of the bad press, my personal feelings about killing off John, and the rehashing of the same story line, I am still going to go see this movie tomorrow night.

I really can be objective, so I will go to the theater, process my thoughts, and come back with my opinions.

It's funny, every single time something supposedly "woke" fails, much like awards shows ratings, or gender swapped movies, or preachy political garbage that the media thinks is amazing...you get 4 million articles written about why they fail, and NONE have the courage to even list "being too woke" on their list.

They really scrape the bottom of the barrel for reasons for failure, and completely deny that some people may be turned off for supposed political reasons. It's hysterical.

Because if you scroll down to the comments section (if the site has any balls to allow a comments section, as most want to censor any dissenting opinions), damn near 95% of the comments say "too woke". The article writers might as well at least acknowledge that as a possible reason for poor box office. I know they are trying to push people away from that reason because of their own political leanings, but they end up looking like complete idiots having a MAJOR case of denial.

I'm not even saying it is right or wrong, as these people are free to make their movies as "woke" as they want, but to NOT acknowledge that it may turn some people off while spewing ridiculous reasons out of left field about why something failed is some damn funny material to read.
