It's funny because in the live action Beauty and the Beast they cast...

... that really unattractive girl from the Harry Potter films as the BEAUTY, even although she clearly is not beautiful (apologies, I appreciate we aren't supposed to be able to differentiate any more and can't even use words like ugly).

And no one complained! Yet here we have this stupid tirade of nonsense simply because of the actress's skin color in this one!

So, don't follow a fairytale character's written, erm, characteristics in one film = that's okay ๐Ÿ‘.

Then don't follow them in another = Outrageous!

Utter hypocrisy of the highest order.

reply

While tastes vary, Emma Watson is far from ugly.

She hit the wall..

That's just one really bad and unflattering photo.

She's not as cute as she was a few years ago, but not ugly either.

reply

Beauty is a matter of taste. Skin color is factual.

reply

Emma Watson unattractive? lol

reply

Nothing against her but she's very clearly not exactly what you'd consider a beauty is she? Lols or no lols...

reply

She is easily among the most beautiful actresses.

reply

Maybe not physically, but for those of us who aren't shallow, she is *spiritually* beautiful, as a feminist, human rights, and pro-trans activist.

:'D

BLACK MERMAIDS ARE NOT REAL!

reply

So what color skin DO real mermaids have?

reply

My brain just exploded like the mainframe when Peter York said "There is no sanctuary" in Logan's Run.

reply

Except a lot of people complained about Watson being miscast as Belle. In fact they complained about a lot of things in the movie. What the hell are you on?

reply

My only issue is that Ariel was a bit of a brat in both the original story and the animated film, and I hate seeing POC portrayed in a negative light. Then again, seeing as Ariel is a mermaid (i.e. a mythological character that can hypothetically be *any* race/ethnicity), and there aren't any of the historical dimensions that might conceivably apply to, say Cinderella or Belle, it probably makes sense that of all the traditionally white Disney Princesses, Ariel is the one given a race-change.

With respect to Beauty and the Beast, I never thought that Belle was the *most attractive* Disney Princess, by any means. I always assumed her beauty was as much spiritual as it was *physical*. On a superficial physical level, the 'bimbettes' in the original animated film always appealed more to me (assuming they weren't prostitutes, as some annoying revisionist wankers have speculated), but they'd grow tiresome fairly quickly because of their dim nature, whereas, the bookish and earnest Belle's appeal transcended her physical appearance (hence why Emma Watson, who's a wonderful human-being in real life, but not someone I find physically attractive, was a decent choice for the part).

I had no problems with Emma Watson in this role, but I was constantly reminded of Hermione Granger. Her character here even loves books the same way!

reply

LOL!

There are more than two fictional female characters who love books.

reply

Yes, but Watson is typecast now. So is Radcliffe and Grint.

reply

I think Radcliffe has *some* range, to his credit, and although I like Watson and Grint as people, he's clearly the superior actor.

reply

Belle was way miscast by Emma Watson. I agree. I didnโ€™t see Belle. I saw Hermoine wearing a yellow dress. Plus, sheโ€™s fairly pretty, but sheโ€™s not beautiful - the way โ€œBelleโ€ is supposed to be. Plus, Emma just canโ€™t sing.

As for Halley Bailey, I guess one could make an argument about skin color, but regardless of your feeling there, there is no argument that this girl can sing. And sheโ€™s more beautiful than Emma, but I realize thatโ€™s a matter of personal taste as well.

reply

My biggest issue with Emma Watson in that movie is that the girl couldnโ€™t sing.

Neither can Hermione Granger.

Also, I'll be keeping a close eye on you, since this is your first post with a new account. Are you TearsofLys, by any chance?
