5/10 (aimed at kids-family, 90s style)

I had different expectations for this movie... ended up feeling that Samaritan is a relatively mild PG-13, aimed at kids-teenagers who are beginning to look for something more 'grown-up' to watch - I felt a very 90s kinda vibe.

Kinda family action adventure-vibe from the 90s - early 00s.

I would place it along with the following:

Last Action Hero (family-kid-friendly action-adventure / the dynamic between main character and kid)

Meteor Man (overall kid friendly tone-action-adventure about a local city superhero)

Jumanji (overall tone, action-adventure-family involving kids, Samaritan is a little darker in tone though)

Space Jam (Samaritan being a God-like figure who is retired, like Michael Jordan among athletes and the overall tone action-adventure)

Waterworld (the cartoony villains and the tone of the relationship between the kid, the mom and the main character - this one is a more similar tone to Samaritan regarding the relationship between the hero/kid/mom and how far the onscreen violence goes as well as the cartoony-over the top villains)

3 Ninjas

Zoom

Sky High

Hancock

Maybe a little bit of Shazam and Deadpool

I would even say it has some Dick Tracy (1990) because the good guys are GOOD and the bad guys are BAD, no in between the lines and also the dynamic between the boy and the lead.

Previews did give me the family-friendly vibe

reply

The trailer gave me that Chuck Norris - Sidekicks vibe (allbeit with a slightly bigger budget)

reply

That's a shame. The idea sounded like it had potential.

reply

That's strange, I expected something a bit grittier and violent.

reply

Same. Based on the poster alone, lol.

reply

Even articles discussing footage shown at CinemaCon described it as looking R rated. I wanted RoboCop meets Unbreakable. Not some kitschy throwback.

reply

The poster just Stallone in an Ally.

I find it a little ridiculous that people think the only way a movie can be good. Is if there just buckets of Blood EVERYWHERE. You know what Citizen Kane Needed a Mortal Kombat Spine Ripping. And Wizard of Oz would have been so much better if the Dorthy used a AK47 to mow down the Lollipop Guild. Jesus Christ.

this^

I don't care what anyone says, Waterworld was great.

reply

I liked Waterworld too, I've probably watched it over 100 times, but it's not a 10/10 kind of movie... it's just fun.

I found the tone and some of the relationships in both movies very similar - also the villains being over the top/cartoony.

Family Friendly??, Did you not watch the end of the film. The part where he bashed a bunch of guy skull in with a Hammer is Such a "G" Rated Scene. Also Deadpool not a family friendly movie, you dipshit.

reply

You could've just made your point without the "you dipshit" at the end. That tells us you have a lot of anger built up inside to lash out like that for no good reason. Maybe you just need to get laid. Whaddya think?

reply

Im not a big fan of idiots who say stupid things like Deadpool is a kids movie. When there body parts all over the place. Its like Saying Mortal Kombat for kids. Kids might play it. But its not FOR THEM.

DP is not a ff movie but it's definitely for teenagers.

"aimed at kids-family, 90s style"

Pretty much.

1) Did you miss the part where he said "I AM THE BAD GUY"

2) He said there good and bad in everyone.

I would say this movie is ambiguous as to who good and bad.
