I found a plot hole

Dom has a younger brother? There was no such brother in any of the past films. Surely Dom or Mia would have mentioned if they had another sibling in previous films, especially considering how family is so important to them

reply

That is not a plot hole.

Its weird , unlikey , and bad writing as you say , doubtless a retconn type thing to push the plot the way they want ...
but its not a plothole.

reply

I don’t think Dom and Jakob are biological brothers, maybe Jakob was adopted or a step-brother.

Maybe Dom has a Secret he doesn’t want to tell to Roman, Tej, Han or Ramsey or even Brian. Maybe before the first movie when Dom was involved with his original team - Letty, Jesse, Vince and Leon, after their dad died, something happened, Jakob maybe was in the wrong place at the wrong time. When the team were stealing DVD players from trucks, the cop could have found the stolen DVD players with Jakob finding them and the police believe him to be the one who stole them and arrested him which led to him and Dom falling out. Which would be way Jakob accuses Dom of turning his back on him.

In the Dutch subtitled trailer Dom asks “you’re still my brother but you will never be family” pretty much indicates that’s Jakob may not be redeemed.

reply

Saying that’s a plot hole is like trying to say Han’s return in F9 is a plot hole. That’s not how plot holes work.

We also didn’t even know that much about Dom’s dad’s death either until now because he only talked about it very briefly in F1.

Just like with what I had posted the other day over in the F7 forum, about how could Sean tell Dom to go find Han’s killer when they don’t tell us that Dom might have already told Sean that the old DK didn’t have as much to do with that as he originally thought.

Not being told information isn’t a plot hole.

reply

That’s your plot hole? In this movie that’s your one plot hole?

reply

Yes, I find plot holes all the time in movies like this

reply

Again, not being told specific information is not a plot hole.

reply

Are you another one of them who I will have to define what a plot hole is?

reply

Sure, go right ahead. No wait, I'll do you the honor and do it for you. Go here.....
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plot_hole

.....and check out the second paragraph up at the top of the page. Literally the second sentence explains it all. Here, I'll even quote it for you....

However, the term is also frequently incorrectly applied - for example, a character being intentionally written to take irrational action would not be a plot hole, nor would "loose ends" or unexplained aspects.

reply

Looks like I was wrong on this one

reply

LOL!

reply

Definitely not a plot hole.
Dom is over fifty years old. The total screen time of all 8 movies is about 16 non-continuous hours. I think it's highly possible he could go .004% of his life without mentioning a brother, especially if they are estranged as the trailers seem to indicate.

reply

What all the characters’ ages are in the movies is irrelevant but that’s just it, whether you’ve seen the movie or not, there is quite the estranged relationship between Dom and his younger brother Jacob so even though he does portray that he’s all about the family, I could see him leaving this part out especially just for that but being that Dom’s dad’s death happened in 1989, that’s 12 years before the story starts if 2001 was actually the current year when the original movie came out.

reply

its a huge plot hole, he never mentioned he had a brother in any movie? it would be like Letty saying she was married the entire time. you cant just bring a new character in a movie and not have it explained.

reply

Again, it’s not. Do yourself a favor and go Google plot hole and you’ll see that simply not giving a certain piece of information that comes up later on is not a plot hole. Whether it’s a book, TV show, movie, they’re not gonna give you every aspect of the story between the beginning and the end. If they later on want to add something in there they can but it’s not a plot hole.

And by the way, you’re ignorant comparison throws you even further off than you are because even though that still wouldn’t be a plot hole, that would just be one hell of a twist to add in later on if the story all the sudden reveals that Letty has been married while she’s been with Dom.

Just like how we find out in part eight when all of a sudden Dom has a child that he had with Elena that he didn’t know about. You gonna call that a plot hole too, because it’s not. Same thing like when we… well….. or so we thought when we find out that at the end of 7 that Han actually died at the hands of Deckerd Shaw.

What is the plot for holes?
A plot hole, or plothole, a play on the word "pothole," is a gap or inconsistency in a storyline that goes against the flow of logic established by the story's plot, or constitutes a blatant omission of relevant information regarding the plot sometimes even contradicting itself.

How do you find plot holes?
Here are 6 types of plot holes, along with tips on how to fix them.
Fact Errors. Facts in your novel should, of course, be factual. ...
Unbelievable or Impossible Events. ...
Unbelievable Character Choices. ...
Contradictions. ...
Unresolved Storylines. ...
Continuity Errors.

Dom not revealing he had a brother is a blatant omission of relevant information.

According to Google, its a plot hole.

A twist would be like Dom is a double agent or a scooby doo ending. A plot hole is missing relevant information.

reply

According to Wikipedia, it’s not. Go back up there and click on the link I provided for the OP when they thought the introduction of Dom’s brother was a plot hole. I don’t know what part of Google you went to say this is a plot hole but I don’t think I would trust it.

reply

Wikipedia is on Google, so it supersedes it. this is on wiki.

In fiction, a plot hole, plothole or plot error is a gap or inconsistency in a storyline that goes against the flow of logic established by the story's plot.[1] Such inconsistencies include things as illogical, unlikely or impossible events,[2] and statements or events that contradict earlier events in the storyline.[3]

Plot holes are usually created unintentionally, often a result of editing or the writers' simply forgetting that a new event would contradict the events and not checking. However, the term is also frequently incorrectly applied - for example, a character being intentionally written to take irrational action would not be a plot hole, nor would "loose ends" or unexplained aspects.

reply

You posted the same thing I did which you’re basically saying I’m right that all the sudden a new character is not a plothole.

reply

not really,

In fiction, a plot hole, plot hole or plot error is a gap or inconsistency in a storyline that goes against the flow of logic established by the story's plot.

not addressing that Dom had a brother for 9 films, even though Dom is all about family. it makes no sense...

reply

You need to learn what a plot hole is. Then come back and join the conversation

reply

I can't tell anymore if people are being serious or just joking when they use the term "plot hole" incorrectly like this.

reply

Let me know if I can be of help to you to define what a plot hole means

reply

You have no idea what a plot hole is and are the last person that should be teaching others about the term.

reply

I've been teaching movie chat users what a plot hole is for a long time now

reply

Yeah I'd noticed , once you actually found one.
I cant remember which movie it was though

reply

Just once? Guess you havent seen many of my posts

reply

We've seen a lot of your posts on plot holes. You are almost invariably wrong in your analyses.

reply

analyses? Or do you mean analysis? Besides being the king of finding plot holes, I am also part of the spell check police

reply

No, analyses, as in the plural of analysis. You have made many claims of plot holes, each of which is a separate analysis. Together, the collection would be analyses. Thus, you are almost invariably wrong in your analyses.

reply

my mistake

reply

Lol, love that you just schooled the troll. Well done.

reply

At least you have the courage to admit it.
