Which is worse? Prometheus or Covenant?

I'm curious what your opinion is.

reply

I hate what has become of the Alien mythology, and the direction it's gone in. Therefore, I could never totally enjoy anything connected to Prometheus or Covenant. But if I ignored that, I thought Covenant was much better. Prometheus I hated all the characters except Fassbender, and they all did and said stupid things. Covenant was a little less stupid. But still not good.

reply

I just finished Covenant and it was just a 10 little indians film and the characters were really dumb. If you want to see if a planet is good for colonization and when you get there there are hurricane size storms all over the planet that is a big hint to just move on.

Prometheus at least was not a bad copy of Alien (1979). It tried to add some story to the mythos.

reply

You remember the huge silica storm which the Prometheus didn't see coming until it was on top of them and the map guy not having his map and how they were left without radio contact and how they tried to play with a vagina snake and old man Weyland and Vickers being squashed by a ship meant to be going in the other direction and Shaw's surgery which was meant for a man and...?

reply

The Covenant was in orbit above the planet and saw the storm. The Covenant's main destination was not that particular planet. The Covenant's only purpose in going to the planet was to see if it was habitable for the colony.

The smart group would look at the storm and the atmosphere and say "Well this is not a good place to start a colony, let's leave"

If I recall, the destination of the Prometheus was the planet they went to. Storm or not, they go down because it is their mission.

Either way Covenant is still a straight up 10 little indians film while Prometheus is not.

reply

They are each as silly as the other.

reply

Prometheus was good in that it actually asked some provocative questions before falling apart. This just falls apart instantly. So this one is worse.

I'm trying to go for an entertaining, informative youtube channel so, if you have the time, take a look. Hope you enjoy what you see and if you have any thoughts or criticisms, i'd love to hear them. Thanks in advance. Review right here- https://youtu.be/fyYgj2Fpur0

reply

Which provocative questions did it ask Craig?

reply

Jesus, your (nearly six year long) obsession with demanding everyone justify liking Prometheus, to your PERSONAL satisfaction, is just sick.

It also highlights what a self-centered little twit you are.

reply

I'm only asking questions Spanners.

What's your beef with that?

Wait...that's a question...you are unable to respond to them with any civil recourse, just more of the prescriptive and empty authoritarian temper tantrums from you.

Feel free to get back to me with answers which gave agency to your mocking people for merely asking questions when you've grown up*

*Trick statement, you'll never grow up.

reply

I'm only observing, what's your beef with that?

Blah blah blah, on and on. You're just obsessed and self-centered and you don't really care about anyone else's view, you just like being a twit.

Oh and once again, just give up pretending to be on some moral high horse, it's such a useless tactic in the internet age where SO MANY niggling trolls act that way just to try sounding more realistic.

You're familiar with the internet, I take it? I hope so. Yes, people on there will troll and then pretend to be taken aback when they're called out on it.

It's a very old tactic, for very old men. Very old men.

reply

I liked how it raises questions about the origins of human life and thought the engineers for example were great characters that should have been developed a lot more. Unfortunately Covenant just kills them off with nothing.

reply

"I'm only observing, what's your beef with that?"

Well...

"Jesus, your (nearly eight year long) obsession with demanding everyone justify liking Prometheus, to your PERSONAL satisfaction, is just sick."

Let's see...this is January 2018...Prometheus came out in June 2012...2018-2012=6...but we've still 5 months to go and to let's take one of that 6 and divide by 12 and multiply by 6 which is that's right...0.5.

Okay so 5.5 years...hmm...well I guess you could round up that point five which makes it six...OK...so now we've got the best part of ten, why not round it up to that then, I mean it's tenous but if rounding up is what they taught you in school than who am I to say you went to a shite school. Ten it is.

But wait!

You said nearly 8 year long! How in tarnations did you come with that number?

Wow, these observations are really 4 dimensional chess type equations Spanners. You a Trump supporter then?

Yes old man, how's 40 treating you these days? 💁‍♂️

reply

Yes I typed eight instead of six, and I actually corrected it before you even posted this. I think the eight was coming from the eight in 2018 as I reflected on the two years in question.

So your response was a resounding YAWN!

But I noticed something else interesting in your previous post:
just more of the prescriptive and empty authoritarian temper tantrums from you

Now first off, I'd like to point out that there was literally nothing even close to "authoritarian" in my response. There's nothing demanding or prescriptive, no suggestions, nothing of the sort.

It's interesting to me because I VERY often see concepts in your posts revolving around authority, permission, and similar things. I've mentioned this before and now I see it yet again, but it's quite noteworthy this time considering how randomly placed the word is, and how it doesn't reflect on anything I posted.

Yes, there's definitely some trap in your mind that is related to authority and permission... And one of your reactions to that, one of the only ways you take power, is to pretend like people need your permission to like Prometheus. That's why you demand they justify their appreciation to your own personal satisfaction.

When we have no power, we take power over petty things, isn't that right? Poor Harry.

Oh and your self-justifying behavior, which I replied to already, is very dishonest. Like when you hilariously tried to paint statutory rape and rape as being basically the same thing.

All that dishonesty and blatant lying just because you wanted to ask me if I'd raped someone. How sick and sociopathic of you.

Yes, someone who had a few teenage dalliances with teenagers... And you ask him 21 years after the fact if "rape" is a habit of his.

See, you're a self-justifying, lying sack of crap with no scruples, who goes around trolling people over one movie from nearly SIX years ago.

reply

Very telling...erm what vos your name again...ah sorry...very telling Gordon Brittas.

So dees tribalism unt need for inclusion that you have, ees thees maybe sumthink from your childhoood?

You seem to project eet often, to dah point where I'm thinking there maybe is sumthink that you cannot let go oaf, no? 🧔

reply

I think you should at least look at this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNP6npTaxjY

It will not change you mind I am sure but I am not the biggest Prometheus fan and the video made me no longer hate it.

The guy has a lot of similar videos and they really help put a positive spin on movies. A positive spin on things is something we should all be able to enjoy.

reply

Thanks for sharing!

It's post-IMDb boards and so I hadn't seen it.

I'm at 4:38 just now and have paused, this for me was the drop-off point in the movie. It's at 30 points and I'd say only 15 of them are valid, note that whilst I think he is being generous I stated that I think that 15 of them are valid, let's see how it stands by the end of my viewing...

Finished now, they've got to 110 points, I'm at 23 points. Granted they gave themselves points for the same thing on multiple occasions and so, perhaps if I'm generous, I'd agree that one third of why they think Prometheus is good and proper.

Still a shit story though, laughable at best in my opinion. Beautiful, competent, technical camerawork and solid acting but highly flawed as a story to tell in the first place.

reply

And thanks for taking the time to watch it. Like I said, I did not think it would change your mind but hopefully those 23 points help a little.

I will agree that he is very generous at times but I think the idea is to be a counter to the CinemaSins people who do "Everything Wrong With...." and who really reach for things.

reply

covenant is mildly steering the series back to the alien. Not sure what prometheus was.

reply

Prometheus was a movie about the space jockeys aka engineers, not the xenomorphs aka "aliens."

That's why it didn't have Alien in the title.

reply

I only watched Prometheus because of its connection with the first Alien movie. Did any one actually watch promethues that wasn't aware of the Alien connection? Like for real if this was you what compelled you to go to the movie? I only accept prometheus and its laundry list of flaws (Yes I say I liked the move) because its apart of the Alien series with out that connection I and many others would have no interest in the film and its flawed odd disjointed narrative that it was.

reply

"Did any one actually watch promethues that wasn't aware of the Alien connection?"

I'm sure there were plenty. Either way, people in general enjoyed Prometheus a lot, as it made great money and even had legs in the theater, unlike Covenant that basically flopped and made about half as much as Prometheus.

reply

I have my suspision covenant flopped on bad word of mouth about prometheus. We need more Alien Franchise movies either way so I'm not gonna trash prometheus.

reply

Covenant is much worse.

reply

The were both terrible in such different ways, and mostly in how they've ruined the whole Alien "thing" ... it's like asking what is worse, stepping in dog poop or stepping in cat poop ... either way it hardly matters! ;-)

reply

they are two of the worst films I have seen in my life.

reply

Prometheus is arguably second only to the original '79 Alien movie... Covenant is more watchable than all of the rest apart from Alien 3 and has the best line in the whole series...

reply

Difficult to decide, both are equally stupid. I'd say Covenant is worse.
