This will be a massive box office flop

I'm sorry but just by the fact that this film isn't too well known (it may have a cult following) but really it isn't that popular, and the budget being listed at $180 million, do we expect this to be a success or even to break even?

Just look at Ghost in the shell. another similar type film (and that budget was less at $110 million). Or even Jupiter Ascending from a few years ago.

Do we think this movie will be one of the biggest flops of the year?

reply

Maybe, but I'll still watch it.

reply

another john carter, flop

reply

Luc Besson doesn't have many flops on his curriculum vitae, kids.

reply

just saw it and its a flop

reply

Yep we saw it on a Sunday mid afternoon showing.... You could have almost heard crickets chirping. I think the theater with a capacity of 400 had less than 20 people watching it. Apparently word got out it was a dog.

reply

Saw it on Sat and theater was pretty packed. The 2 jokes in the movie fell flat and as soon as the credits rolled people left pretty quickly.

reply

Well I don't know about anyone else, but I'm going to run out to see this movie.

reply

run away from this failure, unless you are on the weed

reply

I don't even know if weed would help. From the New York Times review:

"To say that Valerian is a science-fiction epic doesn’t quite do it justice. Imagine crushing a DVD of The Phantom Menace into a fine powder, tossing in some Adderall and Ecstasy and a pinch of cayenne pepper and snorting the resulting mixture while wearing a virtual reality helmet in a Las Vegas karaoke bar. Actually, that sounds like too much fun, but you get the idea."

I dunno guys. Tom Cruise's The Mummy(2017) got bad reviews and flopped at the box office. But I just finished watching it and I really liked it. It wasn't that bad of a action monster flick. The ending was cliche but everything else I enjoyed. The underwater chase scene was clever. The humor was refreshing thanks to Cruise and the actor that played his buddy. I thought adding in Henry Jekyll was original. Some of the recreated scenes taken from Brandon Frasier's The Mummy didn't look as amazing in this film, like the sand storm taking the form of a face or some of the battle scenes with the mummies.

So I'm thinking Valerian might not be as bad as the critics said.

reply

It looks interesting enough that I'm sure I will see it once it hits blu ray. I just thought the review was funny.

reply

Its not a bad movie its just really boring. Its basically the Fifth Element on crack with zero humor. I saw it in 2D but I am thinking this movie was made to be seen in 3D.

reply

I saw it today.. Very reccomended..

reply

will flop

reply

I wanted 2 leave entire runnin time

reply

This did a worse opening than I had thought. The movie needs the foreign market to save it or it's over for Luc Besson.

reply

Sci Fi has not been doing well in theaters lately. Not counting superhero or Star Wars movies.

reply

Seen it, enjoyed it. It's not the 5th Element but by any other measure it's pretty good.
