why not make the lead character a man?

You know like in other franchises they switched things up by making the hero a woman (Star Wars, Terminator etc?) Why don't they do something similar here?

Every Alien film has had a female main character. Looks like this one is the same. I guess it's not sexist when it's a female led franchise.

reply

I suspect the idea with the Alien movies has always been that women are seen as alien by men (this is, of course, paranoid liberal arts hokum being taken seriously; men do NOT see women as alien, neither are men "threatened" by women in any way, but tell that to a critical theory professor...). Thus, the lead must always be a woman to drive home this deranged philosophy.

" neither are men "threatened" by women in any way"

Then how come all the outraged "woke!" threads , like this one, whenever a woman gets a leading role?

reply

There are no outraged "woke!" threads whenever a woman gets a leading role.

There are threads calling out race-washing, gender-swapping, and other forms pandering to a modern audience that doesn’t exist.

reply

Market forces say otherwise . Money talks .
Studios are putting wimmin and colors into movies because the modern audience wants it . Even the white ones.
If it wasnt making money they wouldnt be doing it.

reply

You’re right, money talks, and money says wokeness doesn’t work. But they make it anyway because they care more about the message than they do about money.

Thanks for proving my point.

reply

If your point is some batshit conspiracy theory along the lines of "Evil jews that run hollywood are forcing their secret agenda of equality on us even though it will put them out of business"

... then neither you nor I have proved that point

reply

Nobody in this discussion but you brought up “evil jews”.

But the Hollywoodites have gone on record trying to push their version of diversity to a mythical modern audience, and every time it’s been proven that nobody wants their diversity.

Literally just happening in your head, like so many other things.
The actual reason people complain has gone over your head for years now and at this point I consider it futile to even attempt to explain it. I have also run out of crayons, so there's that.

LanceDance is still fresh with his 1000 posts, he will learn how futile it is to engage with NPCs like you the hard way.

reply

Well , its you guys that have the issue - suddenly all new films are unpalatable to you because of your prejudices and bigotry .
Thats a you problem , me and the public at large can continue to enjoy movies.

reply

You don't know that is a tradition and formula in HORROR?

Almost all horror movies are lead by woman, Because no one want to see a man be afraid and terrified, people want man has courage and no fear, walk straight to fight alien: Predator.

reply

Having a female lead in a horror movie, traditionally, works because it adds vulnerability to the protagonist. If you later toughen up that character, give her a flamethrower, in a traditional decent movie/franchise they will have earned that toughness through development.

If you have a female lead nowadays they are probably going to be a badass girlboss from frame 1 with zero challenge, adversity, development, journey, whatever. That is only one reason why 99% of modern stuff sucks ass. Throw in green screen, CGI, crappy first-draft scripts, no-name chump puppet directors and wokeness and you have a recipe for dogshit that the fucking cretin public will hand over money for so they can get more dogshit next time.

If people don't like it you can always call them racist/sexist/whatever.

Sure, have a female lead, but just fucking do it properly please.

Shit takes all round today.

"Almost all horror movies are lead by woman"

Like 95% or more? You quite sure on that one?

"You don't know that is a tradition and formula in HORROR?"

Historically not horror itself, more the slasher genre. And a female lead only became a lot more common in the 80's but not essential to horror itself since then. So all the many horror films before the 80's, and there are a lot of them, especially B-move horror in the 1950's were mainly male leads. The slasher genre was only a small part of 80's horror, the rest were mixed leads.

Alien was made before the final girl became a trope for slasher movies in the 80s. It may be a slasher in a closed location, but in 1979 Ridley Scott wasn't copying off Halloween in 1978 or Black Christmas in 1974 or Texas Chainsaw in 1974. But I would call it more sci-fi with monster movie elements.

So Alien itself wasn't part of any horror tradition. And Aliens or any Alien film since then is definitely not horror.

Good point you make.

A black transe man would be a great twist. In the future trans is very acceptable. Make her/him pre op with a penis but with 550 cc silicone breast in female clothing with a much weaker white man as her BF.

reply

Definitely would wait for the director’s unrated cut on that one.

reply

Since the first Alien film it's become an absolute must for every instalment of the franchise to have a female main character.

reply

Because women are QUEENS~ Alien Queen that is. Also, it looks hotter when a alien bursts out of a female chest with her breasts in the way.

reply

Personally, I’m just surprised it’s not a black woman this time around.
