I love Bill Burr but...

I love Bill Burr's comedy but the plot of this film sounds like outdated Boomer humor.

sappy ending, but overall i enjoyed the ride
maybe it was the thc, but i laughed alot
7.7/10

(generation X)

reply

Watching it now. My boomer humor prediction was spot on. It's still pretty funny though.

reply

Maybe slightly high but yeah, it was pretty good fun.

Kind of lost a bit of steam in the second half for that sentimental finish but that's pretty much to be expected in these types of film.

reply

Well, obviously it’s Gen X humor….get your shit straight.

reply

It's just Bill burr stand up in the form of a movie. I liked it. I do think Bill has lost a bit of his edge though.

reply

I think he definitely held back so the movie can be made and I'm actually pleasantly surprised some of the jokes got through, like the Jenner joke which had me laughing

reply

They address someone using Ok Boomer incorrectly in the movie. They are gen xers. As for the humor being outdated, the movie is literally called old dads, so it's supposed to be viewed from their perspective. I'm not sure what you are expecting.

reply

Ok Boomer is pretty much always used incorrectly especially if its not being directed at someone over 80

reply

It's used incorrectly because most people are just parroting a meme, without knowing what means. I wouldn't really care if people didn't double down even after being told. People use boomers as a generic term for old people the same way people were using Millennial as a generic term for young people. I can somewhat under the latter, because the term changed several times before Millennial stuck. But Baby Boomer has been the same term for the same generation since before I was born.

reply

I often see people use boomer as a synonym for dorky, uncool or unpopular. I think most people that use the term are clueless as to what it means, particularly the people under 30 who use it.

reply

"Boomer is pretty much always used incorrectly especially if its not being directed at someone over 80"

Eighty, or older, is not a "Boomer". The term "baby boom" refers to people born between the end of World War II (1945) and the middle of the 1960s. The youngest Boomer is now (in 2023) fifty-eight years old, and the oldest Boomer is seventy-eight. That being said, this division of everyone into arbitrary "generations" that has become so popular in recent years is really stupid and divisive.

reply

This is correct. People who are 80 years old belong to the Silent Generation.

reply

I dont think "boomer" should get the same length of generation as the others, because it refers to the boom in babies after the war - this must have been a fairly short term thing .

reply

I know they’re GenX’rs. I’m a Gen-X’r too. But making fun of zoomers and millenials is still boomer humor, no matter who’s doing it.

Anyways I thought the movie was ok, not as good as his standup sets, but still pretty good.

reply

It's not though. The older generations always criticize the younger. When Boomers were teenagers their parents were bitching about Rock and Roll Music and Hippies movement. It's a neverending cycle.

But woke culture isn't necessarily about age. The Principal in this movie is older than the main character. Some of the parents are of difference ages well.

reply

isn't his whole schtick "kids these days, am I right?"?

reply

Nope. He's actually really popular with Kids these days. Most of the people that write in to his pod cast are younger, and he's one the most reacted to comedians on youtube. The reason being because he says things that most people think, but they are too afraid to say. Most of his criticism probably comes from women.

reply

I see he's popular among incels, too.

reply

He's popular among most people, since he is one of the most popular comedians of all time. His audience is broad, and he tours all over the world. You should probably do some more research on him because your attempts to pigeon hole him and his audience are really ignorant. You are probably assuming he is a conservative comedy because he is pushing back against the woke mob, but he isn't. He identifies as a liberal, and he's married to a black woman. She actually has a role the movie as a nurse. It's pretty similar to what Dave Chappelle is going through. They are just too big to be cancelled.

reply

The humour in this has nothing to do with GenX/Boomer etc. The vast majority of Burr's rants and observations are shared by the general population regardless of age.

Too many people spend their lives online and come out thinking their obscure views are considered normal. Trans women in sports and the soft ass parenting craze are absolute batshit crazy.

reply

I found it be funny. I thought it mirrored a lot of his comedy, at least the standup I've heard, as it makes fun of the sensitivity of today's society. Of course people and attitudes are heavily embellished in many parts as it's a comedy. I didn't think it was great, but certainly worth a watch and I enjoyed it. 6/10.
