Dave Chappelle is not funny anymore

Back in the day I would genuinely laugh out loud at his stuff like in 'Killing them Softly'. His latest stuff it seems like he's trying to be funny and not succeeding. He laughs at his own jokes to cue the audience to laugh back.

reply

Yes, he's not the same I actually watch Shane Gillis right now. I'm even bored of Bill Burr.

Chappelle is one of the funniest ever his "Goddamn!" is perfect it's just time to move on to younger, hungrier comedians like Gillis.

reply

sorry but new young guys like Shane Gillis just arent even funny. Theyre frikkin ameteurs.

Dave Chappelle's new Dreamer stand up special I'm watching right now on Netflix and its pretty funny but not hilarious funny like his old stuff when he was young and skinny

reply

I saw it. I'm not a big Chappelle fan, I don't care for his attitude personality or humor, but he does make me laugh despite that. It bothers me when I laugh at sick stuff. Seems to be the goal of Chappelle and Gervais.

But the last special the ration of jokes to talk was was down. He just led the conversation in one direction and then at the end of blathering around like that for 5 minutes, he would hook it on a trans joke and snicker.

He appeals to the out of control macho dumbasses in America.

I recently saw Jim Gaffigan's special and it was really nice to see some just
funny jokes about being a normal human being and not just punching down
as Chappelle said he loved to do. I never watched Gaffigan before, but he is
solidly entertaining.

reply

Completely agree. The last two specials have been significantly below his usual quality. I am not offended by his content but whereas the controversy used to be a sidenote, it is now a defining characteristic he seems to be leaning on to sell his shows.

You can tell the charisma and talent is still in there, but he is no longer hungry and is definitely just mailing it in now. Given the money Netflix is throwing him I don't blame him. However in my opinion he has gotten too self indulgent and it is ruining his legacy.

reply

You hit the nail on the head, he's become self indulgent.

reply

I would not say Chappelle has charisma. He is ugly and conceited and
really lacks anything to say that is relevant, so he basically dressses up
insults and punches down - like he said. He is ugly and his voice is
grating, and his humor is the kind of joke that they make you laugh
but only because they are so sick. Like Louis CK and his child molester
jobs, and Rickey Gervais. There is no heart in any of these guys'
comedy routines.

His kicks at Chris Rock who is thousands of times funnier and more
lively and human than Chappelle.

reply

What does your opinion of him being ugly have to do with anything?? He is a comedian not a model.

reply

Not just skin-deep ugly. Something wrong with the guy, like he is an evil thug.

reply

Yeah, he is still funny.

It’s almost like comedy is subjective. πŸ€”

Found it still very funny, it's a great special. No it's not his best work like "Killing them Softly" but none of them really are. For a 50 year old comedian he is doing great.

reply

More drugs then ...

Still Funny! It's mostly new stuff. More relevant today than the old shows.

reply

I think I LOL'd 4 times in the entire concert.

It was more of a statement than stand up.

reply

I can't believe you think it's really him. They obviously replaced him with someone who barely looks like him.

reply

He's still great, but this special was not one of his best.
