Typical snyder film, all style and no substance, looks ao uninteresting and depressing.

reply

Looks pretty good to me. I just hope it won't be a huge disappointment like Army of the Dead was.

reply

What were you expecting from that movie? I thought it was pretty good considering the fact that it was a zombie heist movie. I mean, that is not exactly deep subject matter.

reply

I don't know, the concept was fun, but It just didn't work for me. I loved Snyders Dawn of the Dead and I was hoping it would have been more similar to that in tone. One thing I really don't like are intelligent zombies.

reply

Dawn of the Dead was definitely a better movie.

Honestly, Snyder's films have NEVER totally worked for me. They are always, "Well that was interesting, but. . ." He's a pretty uneven filmmaker.

reply

I loved Dotd and Watchmen was pretty great too.

But I agree that he's a pretty uneven filmmaker. I do find him sort of interesting as a director and I hope that he makes something really good at some point. Many of his movies have a lot of potential but they never really deliver the goods.

reply

Dawn of the Dead is a weird one because it doesn't feel at all like his later films, at least to my recollection. It's like he hadn't yet discovered his own style yet, which he would do just one movie later with 300. It's ironic that the movie that feels the least like a "Snyder film" is also probably his best film.

reply

Yeah, I'd say Dotd is his best and it is a little different in style compared to his movies after that. There is maybe some familiarity in there, but it is not as strong as it would be in his later films. I didn't really like 300, the visuals were too much for me.

It would be interesting to see what he would do if he'd go back to doing something like Dotd. Smaller budget and not a spectacle with grandiose visuals.

reply

I agree on 300. I remember the movie was huge at the time and everyone was talking about how awesome it was, and then I saw it and just kind of thought it was weird and boring and, like you say, the visuals were too much. I've never felt the desire to rewatch it since seeing it in the theater and never watched the sequel.

Not sure why Netflix features always look cheap even though they clearly dumped a mountain of money into this.

reply

I don't know. This one looks better than a lot of the Netflix movies I've seen the last few years.

Official Teaser Trailer | Netflix https://youtu.be/_rHLOXbFZtI

When a peaceful colony on the edge of a galaxy finds itself threatened by the armies of a tyrannical ruling force, Kora (Sofia Boutella), a mysterious stranger living among the villagers, becomes their best hope for survival.

Tasked with finding trained fighters who will unite with her in making an impossible stand against the Mother World, Kora assembles a small band of warriors — outsiders, insurgents, peasants and orphans of war from different worlds who share a common need for redemption and revenge.

As the shadow of an entire Realm bears down on the unlikeliest of moons, a battle over the fate of a galaxy is waged, and in the process, a new army of heroes is formed.

Looks pretty cool, I'll be there!

looks like a little bit of everything

reply

It certainly looks intriguing but I have a complicated relationship with Snyder films. Everyone loved 300 but I didn't really like it at all. But on the other hand I find myself defending Batman v Superman.

All in all, he's never made a movie that I totally loved. This will probably be no exception. But I'll watch it.

reply

Me and you both, brother. Couldn’t have said it better myself.

reply

You can't call him untalented. And on a certain level, you have to admit he's a visionary. But do his visions ever totally work? I'm not sure they do.

I was just making the point in a response above, that Dawn of the Dead--a film that feels the LEAST like a "Snyder movie"--is probably his best movie.

Featuring the usual 90-pound chick who throws guys double her weight over her shoulder.
