The ridiculous thing about this show...

...and, don't get me wrong, it's good so far, but it takes place in the 19th century, in the wilderness, tries to be as authentic as possible, yet the two main characters are so filled with botox and flashing their fake teeth, it's just laughable.

I don't buy the daughter as a Tomboy, cattle herder. Nor do I buy that she would be into that greasy cowboy. But allowances have to be made to appease the Woke ones who won't watch this anyway.

reply

You mean Tim and Faith? I thought she looked a little but rough after the first episode. Sam Elliot looks every bit of 77 years old. I guess his character is supposed to be a good bit younger, maybe like 60 or so. Otherwise it wouldn't make sense consider his responsibilities on the journey, and his participation in battle in the Civil War (if character is 60, he would have been 40 in 1863, which would have been older but no unreasonable).

reply

Yeah, Tim and Faith. Elliot looks great for his age.

reply

He looks a very capable 77 though. Something I hope to be if I make it that far.

reply

Exercise frequently, make healthy food choices, and you can be Quigly Down Under Roadhousing with the rest of the fit old dudes!

(I know thats two different actors, but Quigly Down Under is a good movie)

reply

Disease would have been the big killer back then. Other than that yeah living an active life, natural food, no smoking that would be the key as you say.

reply

The tobacco they would've smoked is a far cry from modern cigarettes.

reply

True but inhaling smoke is just not a good idea.

reply

Agree with you about exercise and "Quigley", an underrated "western".

reply

i think the casting is all wrong. sorry, but i just can't see tim mcgraw as a tough mountain man. people today seem to think that adding a beard to a man makes him automatically tough, or something. tim mcgraw is the epitome of a beta male. go watch him in blind side, to see for yourself.

they cast this based on notoriety and marketing, instead of performance. similar to the days in music when they'd choose the new boy band by looks, THEN teach them the instruments.

reply

"Blind side" is, actually, part of the reason why I wrote this post. 🤣🤣🤣

He's not bad in this role, nor is Hill, but, when you look at them, it's hard to buy them as tough pioneers, when they flash those American issued pearly whites.

reply

I realize everyone, EVERYone will disagree with me. Hell, im used to that lol

But to me plausibility is a very large portion of casting. Tim mcgraw is just not realistic as a tough guy, sorry.

reply

I don't think everyone will disagree with you...

I like Tim McGraw, and I can see what they were going for, but he's just not naturally gruff enough. I noticed this in the trailer for the show.

You can tell they're trying to portray him as gruff, rather than him just being naturally gruff. For instance, I bought Viggo Mortensen as an outdoorsman in The Lord of the Rings; he looked like he lived in the land, he had a lot of natural ruggedness and weariness about him. The natural part is the biggest part... and I think it's the fact that McGraw doesn't naturally fit into the role is the biggest takeaway, even though I really wanted to like him in the role.

reply

well said

reply

He's more believable than she is. Of course, playing the tough guy in a western is a big stroke of the ego for most of these Hollywood candyasses.

reply

I like him in the role, didn’t see him in any other shows so …

reply

Same with Yellowstone and the daughter who is actually supposed to be in her early 30's but looks late 40's. It really makes things confusing. Costner is also much older than his character is supposed to be.

It's like the producer just cast his buddies and their relatives. The casting of the daughter in 1883 is also shocking, no way would I believe that Princess would be capable of the feats she is accomplishing in the show let alone how quickly she seems to pick everything up.

reply

Tim looks all right. Not as tough and thick as would have been preferred, but he's got that thick neck, and his body build ain't to shabby in general. Faith Hill has got that aging gene.... i highly doubt she's got any bottox done given how thin her face looks. As I recall, she started aging fast not long after she married Tim - meanwhile, he looked youthful for a very long while even after their marriage. It's a weird thing to say, but in this film, I didn't see any chemistry between the two. One can attribute this to the script - and that would imply that they are actually very legit actors.

reply

He face looks like Joan Rivers type. Watch westerns from the 30s-90s, the women look more natural. The daughter also has that fake look too.

reply

Could be - I dunno. To me, it's not as obvious to me, to be honest. I could be wrong, I guess.
But the teeth.... nearly all actors in this series seem to have gone to the same hollywood dentist just prior to filming. Their teeth stand out like a sore thumb. The makeup department should be fired. In the past, dentures were an option, to make teeth look realistic for various roles.

reply

I know, Faith Hill looks awful, like most women who've had plastic surgery. If you can look at them and tell they had work done, what is the point?

reply

no kidding, they should have cast someone younger.

Tim looks the part though as a true frontiersman. he is a better actor than I thought too.

reply

I agree, he does pretty good. She just doesn't fit at all. So many good looking women fuck their faces up with plastic surgery.

reply

Yep and their bodies.

reply

Don't forget about that horribly dyed beard.

reply

Those perfect white teeth …

reply

when McGraw and Hill are on-screen, I stare at their perfectly straight super white teeth, Tims weird looking face. ( botox?). Every time those two are on screen I just see Tim and faith and not the characters they play. The young girl same perfect teeth, and does she have time to bleach her hair? I like the show I just think better casting would make it even better.

reply

I'm not United-Statesian, so those two aren't a part of my daily surroundings. Still, they stick out like a sore thumb. Which is a shame, because they did a fairly decent job on the show. And the girl, actually, made me glad the season ended the way it did.

reply

lol - true
Bon Jovi has the exact same teeth these days - whenever he talks, I ignore everything he says and just stare at his teeth. WTF would you get teeth this white? It's not realistic - on the contrary, it screams out loud that they might not even be real - or you had a LOT of work done. Kinda like those bimbos who get their lips bottoxed up to the max and now look like ducks - why would you do it? What's wrong with your brain that made you think that this attractive in any way? Or is that a status symbol these days?

reply

Just watch the video "Indian Outlaw" -- I laugh everytime I see it. What a joke.

reply

Holy crap, he'd be so cancelled today.:DDDDD
This reminds me of that saying - rap is where the poor pretend to be rich and country is where the rich pretend to be poor.

reply

Right? He's so hilariously cringeworthy in that video. Everytime folks says how "sexy" he is... I tell them to watch that gem!

reply

LOL not a bad song though. Anyway the producers of the video would like to apologize to anyone they may not have offended, they will promise to be more inclusive in future.
