Sophomore slump?

While season 1 was good, in this season I cannot stand any of the characters and don't find much else of interest. Now watching only for the scenery.

reply

I am really into this season. The characters are mostly awful, and that is what makes it so good. Mike White has penchant for writing terrible and horrible people. I thought the first season was not what White does best, but this season is brutal and I love it.

reply

Can you possibly explain this penchant for nasty, brutal characters and plots? Is that how you see life or something, or your life is so boring you spice it up by imagining these kinds of things?

reply

I don’t see these people as being horrible people(well, a few may be) but more so very flawed and very human. Each character is very layered and that makes the show fun to watch . I honestly don’t even care that much about the “mystery” each season

reply

I think this season is actually a bit better than S1 (and I would rarely ever say that). It's basically the same as the first: a peek into the way snotty rich people vacation. The only thing it's missing is a strong character like Armond. Valentina is not without her charm, but Armond was a tour de force.

reply

Armond was one of the funniest series characters ever. Why does Mike White keep killing off the best characters?

reply

Now that is over, people are saying the opposite.

reply

What people say the opposite?

Who?

Where?

Because if you mean certain people here at this place, if you check their profiles you'll often find that they NEVER have anything nice to say about ANYONE or ANYTHING.

reply

Everyone outside this toxic shithole say season 2 is better than the first one.

reply

People? Which people? Be aware that a lot of stories and posts on the web are actually plants by the network or studio, that is, covert ads.

reply

Ok, Qanon.

🙄

reply

Look at you. Did I call you a name?

Why would you relate to stupid characters? Every single one of them was. Plus some of them were evil. It's like that show Maid where she makes one stupid decision after another.

I dunno what's going on with people these days. They find stupid characters sympathetic.

reply

Watch Disney movies if you want perfectly nice, likable characters you can cheer for.

reply

Never said that. Is that your idea of the way to discuss something? Strawman the other person's argument until it's easily derideable? Really clever.

reply

I'm sorry but your comments don't warrant more than that.

reply

So boring.

reply

I loved S1, loved S2 even more.

reply

S2 was way better that S1.

The writing overall was superior. Even though we are still dealing with rich assholes, they felt more relatable. The twist about Greg was really good.

If I could afford a week's vacation a $1 000 a night room in a Shangri-La Palace (plus the fine food and wine) and everything implied with the fact that you can actually spend that much money simply on vacation then I would love to be stupid...

It's a tv show it's meant to be entertaining, if it was about an average Joe taking the bus to work, doing his boring low paid job, going back home to his ugly wife complaining about his boring job and watch a football game then no one would watch.

reply

Who said anything about money?

Are people in Seinfeld or The Big Bang Theory multi-millionaires? Yet they're far better shows.

The equation of character wealth with show quality is no correlation at all.

reply

I totally agree, I love shows like Eastbound and Down or Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

I was replying to your post as I would love to be as "stupid" as them if I was multi-millionaire and could afford this kind of vacation.

Besides each show which portrays a certain category of people loves to be excessive; a show with rednecks they will always have a beer in hand and have beards, a show about black ghetto they will always use swear words and use the n word, etc... of course there is some truth in that but they will use it in excess to make the show more entertaining.

reply

This seems considerably off topic.

reply

They are not stupid, just human. Humans make stupid mistakes. Harper and Ethan were pretty realistic as a young married couple with problems communicating.

I found them more relatable than any characters in S1.

reply

I loved this season. Looking forward to season 3. They should probably end it there though.

reply

Season 1 had Armand and dark humor to it. Season 2 is more bland.
