This is the best new show no one is talking about yet....

This is one of the best TV shows I've seen in at least a year. Too bad it's Showtime because it's going to take a while for it to get noticed.

reply

Agree it's awesome no one is talking about it enough.

If shows on streaming services can explode, so can a series on Showtime. See Dexter and Homeland as examples. I think the 10pm slot, the title, and assumed premise is more of a factor. I'm sure the thought is that the lingering Dexter audience would help give it a boost. That said, the ratings have been poor so far.

reply

I got Showtime through Amazon to watch the new Dexter and decided to give this a try and I’m loving it.

reply

Ratings ticked up some last ep, but it still needs more viewers to hold a 10pm Sun slot.

I recently read an interview with Juliette Lewis. She says the show runners already have a very detailed map of the narrative for 5 seasons, so far. I’m impressed. This is not make-it-up-as-we-go storytelling.

reply

Hmmm... I was born and raised in Ontario. There's a lot of sparse and uninhabited country up north, but it's not so remote that someone could be lost for five years, especially someone looking to be found.

Or maybe the in-story time only takes place over a few weeks?

reply

They were only stranded for 19 months. The story toggles between past and present.

reply

Yes. Five (or more) seasons in no way necessarily equates to five years of time; nor does it mean that all the seasons deal with the plane crash part of the story. The interview I read strongly suggests that a very large part of the story deals with the adult lives of the Yellowjackets, and how they play out because of the trauma of the crash.

I’m so glad to see people talking about this.

reply

Right? Especially when rescuers would have had at least an initial position fix before the EPIRB was destroyed.

reply

If it were on Netflix, I'd be a big hit among teens.

reply

it'll be a big hit in 2 years when it hits Netflix

reply

You peaked my interest in this. Added to queue. Trailer looks decent enough. Will it last the seasons though is the question. Doesn't Showtime have a rap sheet of cancelling good shows too soon? Maybe I am thinking of some other channel...

reply

If your interest has peaked, it can only go down from there, so you shouldn't bother watching it.

reply

We should assume they meant "piqued".

reply

I did. But then I also wanted to make a harmless joke about it. I've seen Rorikon's posts over the years and he has a sense of humor, so I doubt he will be offended.

reply

Watching this now, I like it so far but I noticed a goof 15 mins into the 1st episode. In the second 1996 scene there's clearly a chevy HHR in center of the shot.. no big deal but that's lazy.

reply

Ratings are still a struggle. Under 200k viewers is pretty weak, even with fewer people bothering with live+same day viewing.

reply

Orrrr.... the worst new show that everyone is talking about. That's my vote.
