So when the flying saucer transformed... [spoilers]

So for the whole movie Jean Jacket, the creature, was a round, black flying saucer shaped thing.

So what was the impetus in the finale act for it to suddenly transformed into Priscilla queen of the desert? I spent the rest of the movie trying to figure out what I had missed.

perhaps it was getting very angry.

PMS? 😆

TBH, not a clue. I absolutely loved the Key and Peele show, but I have a funny opinion of Peele’s movies - Very entertaining, and have some decent social commentary…but completely falls apart if you try to analyze them any more deeply than a pop-horror kinda thing.

I know he’s a huge Twilight Zone fan, so that’s the prism that I watch his movies from, and they work for me in that way.

His direction is surprisingly good though. The storytelling doesn’t always hit the mark, but I’d be lying if I said it was boring. I’d sooner want to watch a Peele flick than a Shaymalan flick.

i too dont think they explained or showed us why.... in my mind, I'm going with.... it kind of finally ate enough people where is was less hungry, and stopped from the hunter/killer/eating mode of being a fast flying saucer shape. that works for me...

but in the end, to me it was not important. I enjoyed the movie for the overall premise and spectacle so I let weird details like this one slide. sometimes weird things just happen and we witness it. we're not always privy to full explanations. some call those plot holes, I call it how life is sometimes.

I wouldn't say it was black, more like silver, but it did look like an eerie silent, fast-moving flying saucer. I suppose it changed because it knew the humans were on to it and it decided it may as well assume its true natural form and not bother about disguises, so it could be more efficient in its killing.

I interpreted it as getting angry and making itself as big as possible to be more threatening. Right before this, it had just eaten a building and spit it out violently, and then ate barbed wire and dropped that, losing Angel in the process. That's when he changes.

Funny, I sensed exactly the same thing, just couldn't quite put it into words like you did.

Jean Jacket seemed hostile to anything with eyes coming into its territory, just as OJ sensed about it.

Now it's frustrated, having missed Angel and Emerald, then being chased off by Lucky's parachute & flags. Finally, a giant competitor floats up into Jean Jacket's own, personal airspace with the temerity to look at it AND wink!

It just felt right for Jean Jacket to go all "big" before attacking Jupe's balloon. It was acting like an animal, just as OJ predicted it would.

And I loved the setup - we're shown repeatedly that Jean Jacket "pops" its prey after sucking it up (that's when the screaming stops). So of course it "pops" the giant balloon as well, fatally.

Gotta say, I did NOT see that coming. Kudos to Emerald for figuring it out and to Peele for coming up with the plot point.

Oh ... wanted to add, why Jean Jacket initially gets big

It's chasing OJ

This is an important point, I think. Like OJ says, he "gets" Jean Jacket

I like to think Jean Jacket understands that OJ, in particular, is its nemesis

For some reason, I keep thinking of this:

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Xajqm3_7mdo

It's a video of an elephant repeatedly charging a game warden yet being scared off because the guy refuses to budge

reply

Like a Pokemon it evolved to its final form, it ate enough people to level up.

reply

Lol! As good a guess as any though...

reply

To me it appeared that sucking up all that sharp barbed-wire fencing did something to shed its disc visage. Perhaps it was wounded?

reply

At first I assumed it had been injured but apparently that was its true form.

reply

It was horny!

reply

Making itself larger and more intimidating to the "item" that had evaded it before.....OJ.

reply

Didn't OJ say the fake horse hurt it? That's why it was afraid of the flags?

I've only seen the movie once but from what I gathered the saucer trying to destroy the house by inhaling it along with the barbed wire had hurt it. The form it took at the end was to air out and release all of the debre it inhaled.

I also got the feeling it wanted to attack OJ but was cautious and afraid of being hurt again. Now why it attacked the balloon at the end I have not idea. Seems like it should have known there was something sketch about it.
