In 2007 was MySpace more popular than Facebook?

Looking back I find this movie to be a bit dated when some older guy was asking the two main characters if they've had MySpace, back when this movie was released I've yet had Facebook and still remember MySpace being a very popular site then.

Being a Jew doesn't make him a douchebag. Being a douchebag makes him a douchebag.

Just cool it with the anti-Semitic remarks.

Some people truly do not need to be here.

Oh, I forgot. Bateman's dating someone from the ACLU

I feel like Facebook was starting to gain popularity in 2007, it was close to MySpace, if not equal. Not like to today where FB is king and MySpace is a relic (does it still exist?) But in 07, Myspace was still very popular even with FB around.

Oh no I agree that using Myspace wasn't dated in 2007. You're probably right about FB popularity back then. Come to think of it I remember right before I graduated HS a lot of people had signed up for Facebook as it was the "new thing"

I stopped using MySpace at the end of 2006, so it's possible it may have still been somewhat popular at the time. I had friends that were still active on there until 2008. I permanently deleted my MySpace account when they changed the layout and geared it more towards music bands.

movies are made a year or two before they're released.

reply

wow, did it ruin the movie because one social media site had replaced the one mentioned for a single line in the script.

Its barely worth thinking about.

And hardly "dating" it really badly. When people say 80's teen comedies are dated its because of the story telling and the way characters act and make decisions that would seem ridiculous in a film now.

"ooh this movie is shit, the smart phone is not the size of a dinner tray and doesnt have 5G, turn it off now!"

I didn't start using Facebook regularly until early 2009 and I remember that was right around the time when Facebook was an up & coming site, MySpace seemed to be on the way out then.

reply

That's how i remember it also. I stopped using myspace in 2008 and even then a lot of people i knew were still on it but like you said around 2009, seemed like a lot of people started migrating to facebook.
