Crap movie

All of that pretentious, cheesy fortune-cookie "wisdom" really makes this look pathetic, as well as the special FX which are now dated. And who wants to watch a movie with vastly inferior sequels?

reply

I liked everything from the film except some of its philosophical fantasy aspects.

The special FX are one of my favorite and best well done. Like Keanu says "Woo".

The sequels are not better perhaps but still of quality I think.

reply

"Like Keanu says "Woo"."

That's not a 'special FX', and Keanu doesn't say 'Woo'.

It's Neo, that says "Whoa".

"Woo" is a completely different sound, the 'oo' sounds like the one in the word 'root'. (A phonetical 'u')

reply

Never put it much mind.
U shld c how i chat.

reply

I fell asleep to this the first time I watched it. And that says something cause, I tend to look back at my pre-pubescent self and think I was a very easily impressed little doofus but hell, maybe I was smarter than I think.

It is total, awful.... crap. Only the first 25 minutes has any appeal - there's a lot of atmosphere and coolness. But once they "transfer him" out of the pink gooey pod and they're in that tin can of a spaceship (or whatever) spewing all the pseudophilosophical babble..... I don't know how anybody can find that anything other than embarrassing. I just looked it up and I found they put it in the national film registry/library of congress... think I'm gonna puke.

reply

I was in high school when this came out. Saw it three times in the theaters. It was huge. F ck do you know?

reply

lol they didn't really think this - they are just trying to 'stand out from the crowd' by pretending.

Like all the people who say they walked out on a film when they never did etc.

reply

Yea he's a weak troll this kid.

reply

Just because it was "huge" how does that mean it doesn't suck? I love your boast about "seeing it three times" as though you're boasting about a sexual conquest or something. "I f***ed her three times!" lol

You can say what you want about my mother, I've hated her most of my life.

And what's wrong with jerking off? Even the cheapest porn is usually much more edifying and artistically valid than The Matrix. BTW I don't have to feel "guilty" about jerking off, I have had so much sex in the last 2 years I'm actually starting to get tired and I think i need a break.

You obviously don't have much experience of talking to real people do you, if you think those lame insults are gonna work. I feel a little sorry for you, and a little weirded out but if you're comfortable with being like that, at 34 years of age, then fine...

reply

Here's what I know it's not 1999 any more. And you've probably never been laid lol.

reply

Wrong. It's a great film, hence the praise and high rating ;-)

reply

It's weird. I know that you don't really exist and The Matrix is just telling me to hate you...

reply

If you hadn't of seen The Matrix, you wouldn't of been able to crack that wonderful joke.
So, you should at least be happy it exists.

reply

I'll admit that there's some eyerolling pretentiousness, but other than that this movie is great, especially on the big screen. I don't care about the sequels, they suck.

reply

It’s a movie that was made by two guys who later decided to have their dicks and balls cut off. There’s just something wrong with it.

reply

Yeah, that's definitely one way of looking at it......

I think most trannies are dull, mentally warped attention seekers, but remember it was a really long ass time between the matrix movies coming out, and them doing that.

reply

Honestly, the last time I watched this movie, I kind of hated it. This was very much a favorite film of mine when I was young. Haven't watched it since. I don't want to know if it's actually terrible. Maybe it's just meant for young people. Some movies are like that.

reply

Nah, this movie explores all sorts of themes, was completely groundbreaking for its time and will always be one of the greatest sci-fi movies of all time, regardless of whatever trend has people suddenly condemning it for being overrated.

It might not be your cup of tea, but calling it a crap movie reeks of you trying too hard to be edgy. Use another tool to prop yourself up, this movie was pure magic when it was released and has held up to repeated viewings over the years.

Crap movie lol wow!

reply

Oh, fuck off. And it was not original, it ripped off Ghost in the Shell and who knows what else.

reply

I don't think there's many people unaware that it shares similarities with Ghost in the Shell. But how many people had seen that anime before seeing The Matrix? The Matrix brought the idea to a general audience. In fact, I'd be willing to bet that Ghost in the Shell wouldn't be half well as known if it wasn't for The Matrix.

Plenty of other movies...in fact, most movies borrow, or are inspired by stories that came before them. Either way, it doesn't make The Matrix a "crap" movie.

reply

I thought that if anything it took ideas from Welcome to Blood City.
As for the OP saying who wants to watch a film anymore because of the poor sequels, well Jaws springs to mind, as does the Alien franchise. Do they lessen the enjoyment of watching the first movie?

reply

Shoot, in fact, isn't it generally stated in a surprising way when a sequel is just as good (or better) than the original? It seems a pretty well known fact that most sequels can't hold a candle to the original, albeit there's definitely some exceptions to the rule.

Truth be told, I still liked Matrix Reloaded though. I saw it in theaters...I left feeling exhausted after having been on the edge of my seat a lot of the time. The Matrix was amazing, the sequels can't hold a candle to it, but IMO, Reloaded was a pretty good effort.

But yeah, good point!

reply

Apparently, I’m one of the few who liked all three movies. I’ll concede that the first was the best, but I never understood the vitriol directed at the sequels.

reply

Me too!
You know what? Kind of ironic, considering this thread, but if the first movie hadn't been so damned good, then I bet that wouldn't be the case, you know?
Because if you sat people down and gave them the choice between watching either Matrix Revolutions or something like...the Emoji Movie, a TRUE crap film...come on. There's no question.

On its own, Revolutions isn't a "bad" movie, right? Its just doesn't hold up to the expectations set by The Matrix. And you're absolutely right, IMO, for all that it may be lacking, it doesn't deserve the kind of vitriol is gotten. Or at least, I've never really understood it either! At the end of the day, I'd rather have seen it than not, you know?

reply

Jaws just repeated the premise of a shark attacking swimmers from a coastal town, over and over again. No wonder it didn't last long.

As for Alien, I pretend that only the first two exist, and disregard the others. Same for Terminator.

reply

(As for Alien, I pretend that only the first two exist, and disregard the others. Same for Terminator.)

There you go then.

reply

Not quite. I thought The Matrix was meant to be a trilogy from the start? I mean, Neo starts off as a complete novice, and then ends up being able to beat the agents every time, and they clearly opened the door for a sequel. Such a shame those are even worse than this movie.

reply

TBH, I read that they wanted to make a trilogy for the Matrix, but the studio wouldn't commit until after the first movie was proven to be a success. So what they did was made the first movie so that it actually worked as a stand alone movie, but left open for a possible sequel.
It turns out NEO is the ONE and he can control the Matrix. No actual need for a sequel (in my opinion) but if the farmer wants more milk from the cow, then the sequel(s) can show how the humans win.
Going back to your premise of pretending the Aliens and Terminator sequels don't exist beyond parts 2, I pretty much do the same with the Matrix. In fact I only own the first one. The sequels don't spoil it for me at all.

reply

Hey just wanted to apologize for being kind of a dick. I had a bit of a shit day at work today and kinda took it out on you some there. Just lashed out some...and it was kind of shitty. Sorry about that man, really.

reply

That's OK. I suppose I lashed out a bit, too. Sorry.

reply

Are you two gonna make out now?
