'Indy III' speculation in 1985

Found this magazine cover from 1985 with a cool Conan The Barbarian style cover (sounds like they thought Indy III would involve something like the snake god from Conan?)

fans must've been so pumped for Indy 3 wondering what it was going to be about and if Willie and Short Round would be back etc

reply

They'd never make a cover like that today.

Indy fighting his fears AND a giant snake would of been cool to see!

Indy The Barbarian vs Thulsa Doom

reply

Sad. Why can't companies cater to normal male fantasies about women? Suppressing this sort of thing has to be much more unhealthy.

reply

was thinking about buying it but they show some pages on ebay and it doesn't look like the whole magazine focuses on the speculation which is what i would want. though if that cover is the free poster than it might be worth it.

reply

Its a great cover.. some magazines do have the covers as centre posters (oh it actually does say so on the cover id presume it'd be that one)

As a big Indy fan, I think that's pretty cool.

In 1985 they'd still have a four-year wait before the next Indy film hit the big screen. I bet they didn't realize that.

Speaking of Indy speculation, there are a couple of Indy IV scripts floating around (one supposedly by Chris Columbus and another by Frank Darabont) that I guess were written and then the studio decided to take a pass. They are intetesting.

I read Indy 3 had a few rejected treatments too - a Haunted House thing (that might've just been for the opening.. and Spielberg felt was too similar to Poltergeist ) and a Monkey King plot .. it'll be all on wiki anyway

reply

That's the Chris Columbus script. I read about half of it.

I believe the Darabont script is called "The City of the Gods" or something along those lines though I'm not sure what the plot is.

That woman is not Elsa. Honestly that woman makes it look more like a porno movie. Also cause of how it is drawn, it looks like Indy has mutated into a part snake part man creature.

reply

It's supposed to be Kate Capshaw.

reply

its also based on the Conan woman (the cover is a homage to the Conan poster as was many fun homage around that time like National Lampoons Vacation etc)

wow. that link.

reply

Lol it got me

reply

Awesome. I would love to read "ALL ABOUT THE NEW FILM".

reply

It looks like the poster for one of the Italian knockoffs like Ark of the Sun God or Hunters of the Golden Cobra.

reply

this makes me wish a part III came out in 1987

reply

Based on this cover id have preferred 1987s Indiana Jones and the Cave of Death/Serpent of Evil co starring Kate Capshaw, Ke Huy Quan, and James Earl Jones (and continuing the Temple of Doom vibe) over The Last Crusade

And that cover as the poster of course

reply

That poster looks amazing. What happened to movie posters?

reply

They weren’t. The 2nd movie blew so most expected little.

I remember being reluctant to even go see it. Then for the first time the THX logo with the now famous surround effect came on and people gasped. It was like oh s…

The rest is history. The movie exceeded peoples expectations with an ending that blew peoples minds. The tests of a man.

Great movie!
