Overrated due to nostalgic fans cant move on from their past

Its as campy as they come and cheesy and dated. But for some reason people who grew up in 80's cant let go as if they are doing a disservice to their childhood if they accept this movie is just average and cheesy. You work around technical limitations of the time and not work with them.

OP is correct. Burton's vision of The World's Greatest Detective is that of a confused idiot. The movie is flat out stupid. Only Jack's Joker was interesting (even though not really very Joker but just more of the same Jack we get in all but a few of his movies)

NolanTards are SNOBS

They love proclaiming that The Dark Knight, in being so “realistic”, is somehow the most true to the dark, psychologically intense world of Batman. They say this because:

(a) They want to convince themselves that Batman comics really are intended to be this realistic and intense and

(b) They want to convince others that what they read is so realistic and intense so that they can feel less embarrassment at still reading them in their 20s and 30s. The reason they overrate that movie so much is because so much personal validation is tied into that movie for them. So the more realistic the movies are, the more comic fans will claim to anyone who will listen that they just witness a movie that is exactly like the books they’ve been mocked for reading for decades.

reply

You speak ill of comic books as if you know anything at all about them. Unless you are one of those fools you speak so fondly of who is reading them. You are like one of those people that hates lobster but has never eaten lobster.

I will agree that Nolan Batfans are snobs. But what is also true is that Burton Batfans are soft-target casuals who like Transformers etc.

reply

Yeah, you're being just as much of a Snob as they are. Like seriously, why not just let people enjoy what they enjoy? If they want to enjoy the comics let them just as Nolan fans should let the Burton films have their version of the film without needing to go on long rants about how bad they are to you.

If someone out there wants to prefer the 60s stuff over the dark stuff that's their right too. At the end of the day they're just forms of entertainment and we're all entertained by different stuff.

reply

It's a perfect combination of the Batman comics and the Batman TV show with Adam West. A little dash of each. It also has the best car design ever made for a movie.

Wow dude who pissed in your overalls? AC/DC has been playing the same 3 chords for 50 years and if it still gets people rockin, I don't see a problem.

What I'm getting from these posts is this formula:
Stupid is not really stupid. It is "campy." Campy is good. So stupid is good. Therefore, Burton Batman movies are not as idiotic as they seem on the screen. Rather, they are good via use of secret viewing formula.

reply

Really all I get from it are people who cant stand anyone having a different opinion than them and saying what they like is stupid just to be jerks.

reply

Are you telling people that their dislike makes them stupid just to be a jerk? Or is it different when the it is your opinion?

reply

You misunderstood me. The TC is going on about how this movie is stupid and being a jerk to anyone who likes it.

reply

I'll cede that that is, indeed, an additional ingredient in this soup.

reply

I just thought it was a very entertaining movie, still do, nothing to do with the fact I watched it late 80s what a rather stupid post

reply

Batman 1989 is for cool kids is for the nerds who give a shit about the crap that Hollywood spews out. Poor Poor Souls

reply

What a dumb, angry, and shallow post that too many people paid attention to. Really says a lot about the times we live in...

So all I'm gonna say is yeah so it retains a bit of camp alongside the darkness. Many people and most Batman fans enjoyed that back then and so what? It doesn't make us stupid or the film "overrated" just because of your shallow and short grievances. And all your ranting about "nerds" and Burton looking like he can't a girl sounds like projection.
