The writing on the show is UBER weak. The pictures look pretty, but too many of the plot resolutions came out of a fortune cookie and there’s really no character development. I loved it when I was younger. Now I know better.
shareYeah, it aged with its time frame because it used current pop culture references. I remember liking Manhunter, another Michael Mann creation, and after watching it again recently, the over abundance of 80s style and music choices places it too much into its time frame. It distracted me from the drama of the story and characters.

If you want a great Michael Mann Tv show check out Crime Story, set in 50's Chicago and made in the 80's. Had Dennis Farina as a badass cop going after a mobster.
I think Manhunter holds up very well! The 80s references are fun to watch.

shareRecently gave it a rewatch a few months back. I like it still espcially from Season 1 to 3. I love that some episodes don't end on a happy note either and soundtrack is awesome to it. Season 3 is my favourite as it's pretty dark season.
After that, the show goes off the rails for me. Some silly storylines and it's far more miss then hit.
7.5 rating on IMDB is just about right for this show. If it stopped at Season 3 then it would have been higher.

shareOne thing I really want to do is to watch this show from start to finish. I watched a lot of the Season 1-3 episodes when they first ran, but then the show got too weird for me (plus I went off to college), so there are still some episodes I haven't seen. I'd like to rewatch them all, just to see if the later-season episodes are indeed that "weird."
