Disney Plus Adds Content Disclaimer to Select ‘The Muppet Show’ Episodes

Disclaimer: Snowflakes may find this post offensive!

Wonder what the other 17 are. I can see Spike Milligan and Steve Martin being too funny.

“This program includes negative depictions and/or mistreatment of people or cultures. These stereotypes were wrong then and are wrong now,” the disclaimer reads. “Rather than remove this content, we want to acknowledge its harmful impact, learn from it and spark conversation to create a more inclusive future together.”

The disclaimer has been added to a total of 18 episodes throughout the show’s five seasons, including those guest hosted by Jim Nabors, Joel Grey, Steve Martin, Peter Sellers, Cleo Laine, James Coco, Spike Milligan, Crystal Gayle, Kenny Rogers, Beverly Sills, Jonathan Winters, Alan Arkin, James Coburn, Joan Baez, Johnny Cash, Debbie Harry, Wally Boag and Marty Feldman. The label has been added to each episode for a different reason; but for example, during Cash’s episode, he sings in front of a confederate flag. The disclaimer appears at the beginning of these episodes for 12 seconds.

Each episode bears the 12-second disclaimer for a different reason, from Cash’s appearance singing in front of a Confederate flag to negative depictions of Native Americans, Middle Easterners and people from other cultures. Additionally, two episodes from the final season, featuring guest stars Brooke Shields and staff writer Chris Langham, are left out entirely.

So what?

These kinds of disclaimers on old shows have been old news for about twenty years.

I guess the snowflakes gotta be outraged at something.

reply

Which doesn't lessen their stupidity

reply

What's stupid a about acknowledging an evolution in attitudes and anticipating a conversation about it? The continually self referential media of television has been doing this for decades.

Just in case you've read it from somewhere that has reported it falsely, as there have been many fake stories spread about it, there is no "WARNING" and there is no "you may be offended".

reply

SNOWFLAKES ARE BEAUTIFUL AND UNIQUE...I STILL DONT GET THAT LAME PUTDOWN.🤔

reply

They whither, melt and evaporate when exposed to a little heat.

reply

It's the tone how you say it and the intention behind it that makes a word hurtful or not. Not just the literal meaning of the word itself.

"Negro" literally means the color black. Black people's skin color is not even black, it's more like dark brown, or simply brown. That doesn't mean the word only means the color black and nothing else.

"Chinaman" literally means man from China, same as "Irishman" or "Frenchman." That doesn't mean it simply means man from China and nothing else.

reply

OH YEAH!....WELL,...YOURE A...A...A CANTALOUPE!

reply

See? The intention is to be funny, thus it doesn't work as a putdown.

reply

“Rather than remove this content, we want to acknowledge ...."

so everyone should be happy now !

reply

No. It's stupid to acknowledge stuff apparently.

reply

🙄WOW...SOMEBODY REALLY LIKES DISCLAIMERS.

reply

WARNING. SOME SNOWFLAKES MAY FIND EXISTENCE OF THIS DISCLAIMER TO BE OFFENSIVE!

reply

YOU HURT A LOT OF SMALL ANIMALS WHEN YOU WERE A KID,DIDNT YOU?🤔

reply

now now kids.
I get the impression you are both on the same side of this argument.

No. It's stupid to acknowledge stuff apparently. APPARENTLY
the 'apparently' indicating that is the opposite of Martoto's opinion , and that he does not mind a disclaimer.

"WOW...SOMEBODY REALLY LIKES DISCLAIMERS."
again , indicating that Kowalski , is ok with a disclaimer

(and then rapid descent into internet name calling)

So what the fuck are you arguing about?

PENIS SIZE.

Disney Warns Viewers That The Muppet Show Is From A Different Era When Comedy Was Culturally Acceptable
https://babylonbee.com/news/disney-warns-viewers-that-the-muppet-show-was-made-in-a-different-era-when-creativity-was-more-culturally-acceptable/

"This show was made during a different era, when comedy was more culturally acceptable," reads the warning displayed on the Disney+ page for the show. "It does not reflect our modern values." Viewers that then proceed to watch the program will find the show is interrupted with a pop-up every five minutes that reads, "It looks like you are still watching a problematic show that contains actual humor. Would you like to do better?"

Disney defended the warning, saying that viewers encountering creative jokes and humor on a modern Disney streaming service might find the experience jarring.

"We just wanted to give our viewers a heads-up that the show contains jokes, comedy, laughter, and free speech," said a Disney spokesperson. "It feels very dated nowadays, since the show is packed full of problematic things like jokes, innovation, and quality. It's like, come on, people, this is 2021, not the Dark Ages!"

reply

I love The Babylon Bee, of course it’s a joke but Disney’s actions make you feel like it’s true.

Examining every area of life thorough race, gender, political identity is the real racism and this's what Disney do. 'Left identity politics' is the true racism and most dangerous today. I'm glad The Muppet Show were created in an age when the mouth-clogging and the fascism that called by mistake 'political correctness' (This is not what the poet originally meant by PC) was almost non-existent. An entire generation of children regardless of their skin color or gender enjoy the show.

Well said

Thank god that warning was in there...I was about to turn into a raging white supremacist when I saw that confederate flag next to Johnny Cash, but that Disney warning saved me and showed me the light. Thank you Disney for looking out for my well being. I only wish there were more warnings to protect me from seeing things that can warp my fragile mind. I can’t make these decisions on my own, so thank god Disney can tell me what is right and wrong. I wouldn’t know racism is bad unless Disney told me. 🙄

On a serious note, this is complete insanity, and Disney is a virtue signaling piece of shit of a company. People don’t need goddamn “warning” disclaimers on children’s TV shows.

I just watched the documentary “No Safe Spaces” on Amazon Prime...I am begging anyone who reads this post to watch it. That is what our society is becoming.

reply

Society has lost it.

reply

I decided to watch an episode of it last night and it warned there was tobacco use in it.

reply

I watched attack of the Clones on Disney+ and it did the same thing!

Death-sticks 😂
