I absolutely adore this show. I only discovered it a few weeks ago. It's so wholesome and heartwarming, wonderfully produced. Solid Americana. It's a little cheesy and stale, and often plays out more like a stage play. But I find that charming. I love the messages and morals it presents.
i went on a cruise with my aunt from Virginia.
On it, we met a couple from England.
They found out my aunt was from Virginia.
They said "Oh, we love the Waltons. We want to visit you".
Some episodes were just okay. But it is still one of my ācomfortā shows. Raised in the city, this country way of life is intriguing to me. They actually walked everywhere!
I like it. The early episodes when the Walton kids were young had a certain charm.
But I do like a lot of the later episodes like when Mary Ellen got married to Curt Willard and Ben married Cindy. And of course when Ike Godsey got married to Corabeth, that added another dimension to the show. Corabeth was such a snob but she was funny too.
I liked the element of realism with some of the Walton kids growing up, marrying and having families. Just before the Waltons, the Cartwright "boys" stayed in a perpetual state of adolescence and were never permitted to marry. That is until Joe's wedding to his unlucky bride who didn't make it to the end of the episode.
I liked when John Boy went to college but still came home to Walton's Mountain to visit. But then Richard Thomas left the show and later they brought in a new actor as John Boy. It wasn't the actor's fault, but he was NO John Boy! That just didn't work for me.
I enjoyed the show to some extent as well. I really liked how it addressed various social issues of that era. I wish more former cast members would write memiors. I read the one by the actress that played Erin. It was a decent read.
I found the Waltons to be more mature than Little House, and in fact the original stories about Laura Ingalls Wilder and her family are pretty much watered down in the TV series.
True. The TV series took a lot of liberties with the childrenās books. It wasnāt until much later that I realized that even the childrenās books, took a lot of liberties with the real Ingalls life.
For anyone thatās interested in the true story of the Ingalls family, check out the Pioneer Girl manuscript.
Like Little House it had its issues. But like Little house it had moments. Both shows were awful at continuity. Little house began in 1869 and and ended In 1897...
