Apparently, this guy ruins franchises

He brought back Mission Impossible after the mediocre second movie with a far better sequel that eventually led to a full revival of the series. Maybe that would have happened anyway, but he certainly didn't ruin anything.

He then brought back Star Trek, that was pretty much dead at the time, with a movie that was well received and considered one of the best in the series. The follow-up was also a success.

He also brought back Star Wars with a promising new movie that was well received and made over 2 billion dollars. The Rise of Skywalker wasn't that popular, but most people will agree that if any movie "ruined" star Wars, it was The Last Jedi.

So tell me, what franchises did he ruin again?

reply

That's because he hasn't.

He also made the best film in 20 years, "Super 8".

reply

Super 8 was super boring.

reply

Apparently he's about to make Superman black.

That will "ruin the franchise" in a large portion of the fandom , and amongst people who never watch superman. both groups 100% white

Although it may also be the best in the series in a different groups opinion

reply

Because superman will have the power to be an uneducated, unemployed baby daddy (x 3) hanging around on the streets?

Star Wars and Star Trek. I will not bother to explain why, everyone knows what a hack he is.

reply

Agreed. But for the young ADD afflicted generation, the changes he's implemented are just right. No need to think or focus.
Thus, I'm not surprised by the OP's question - given that he's likely of the target audience age.

reply

He doesn't improve them is a better title.

His type of story structure and SFX style are easy to spot, and ever since he got props for his schmaltzy Spielberg send up "Super 8" he's applied the same formula to all of his revamps. I'd also argue that he probably meets his production deadlines very efficiently so he's respected by the studios for his frugal and net operating profit performances.

reply

He directed MI3, and that was by far the worst one. He just has a producer credit on the rest, so saying he saved the franchise is a massive stretch.

Fuck this guy and his endless lens flares!

reply

Mission Impossible 3 is by far the best in the series. It's the only one that isn't run-of-the-mill summer popcorn fare. You must be confusing the 3rd film in the series with the 2nd, which was hands down the worst of the bunch.

reply

There's a reason the franchise stopped for 5 years between 3 and 4. MI3 was boring garbage that made no money and is completely forgettable, compared to 4,5,and 6, which are all fantastic! I will agree that II was equally bad.

reply

Star Wars was ruined with his derivative BS.

Johnson is mentally challenged so you can really blame himemfor all of it.

reply

Mostly what he does he rehash and swap around elements.

reply

His Star Treks suck. As does his partners Discovery and picard shows...
