Children are part of the world so movies are going to feature child actors.

Shirley Temple?
Elizabeth Taylor?
Drew Barrymore?

reply

Kurt Russel

Drew Barrymore was a drug addict and alcoholic trainwreck before she was 15. Her own mother had her locked up.

Add Brad Renfro, Jonathan Brandis and Jake Lloyd to the list of children ruined by the business as well.

reply

This I did not know, but people from all walks of life make bad decisions. Drugs and alcohol have their allure.
Plus I always thought DB was super-cute. I wonder how she's holding up? She'll be 44 this Feb. 22. That's quite a bit younger than I, but at least she's not in her 30s or younger.

reply

Lots of people wreck themselves on drugs and alcohol that aren't in showbusiness, and many make it through the industry just fine. That's an illogical conclusion to come too.

reply

at least she wasnt a mcdonalds addicts like a lot of other girls. mcdanks will wreck ur body more permanently than mcdrugs

reply

Well i wouldnt put Edward Furlong or Haley Joel osment in the same list as Macaulay Culkin or Drew Barrymore or Brad Renfro and the reason is Furlong and Osment just grow older to become ugly people and that is not a crime and happen to a lot of people who were i dont want to say atractive as kids because that sound just creepy and that is not my intention at all but i think people understand what i mean, in the 90's people saw Furlong in Terminator 2 and thought this kid is going to be the next James Deen or Marlon Brandon because of his looks same with Culkin but they grow up and grow diferent of what people would expected

But beyond that i think Osment and Furlong are just regular dudes with not drugs problems they just are not the atractive guys people expect them to be as adults, well mostly Furlong, and Osment have a looks is way to normal to be a Hollywood star i thought he would be like Ed Norton a dude who is not good looking but is not that ugly so with his talent can compensate and be a lead actor

So for i think those were the problems with Furlong an Osment they just din't develop as people expected and that can happen to anybody you can't blame Hollywood for that

Culkin and Barrymore are other complete diferent story but still i woulnd't blame Hollywood but bad parenting both have been very clear how theyr parents just use them to get money and neglected them that also would have happen child actor or not child actor

Renfro i dont know much of his story but he commited suicide in not way can be compared to Osment who i dont hink have his life ruined he just dint become a big star as a lot of people tought he would and that is not a tragedy

reply

Furlong certainly had drug and alcohol problems. He was in rehab by the time he was 20. He was in a relationship that would be considered statutory rape these days when he was 15. He's been arrested. Osment was arrested a few times before he was 18 for drugs and alcohol. I think he's had at least 1 DUI.

reply

golly, I don't know ANYONE who's had a DUI !
And if I did, they would be a bad person who is not worth knowing.

reply

I know dozens of people that should get DUis

reply

Furlong i did know that but i totally forgot it, is true the dude was living wild during his teens how the women who married im din't end in jail is beyond me, of Osment i din't know nothing of this, Jesus i thought those dude where fust fat in the end they end uo been just others hollywood nut jobs

reply

You are gonna have bad and good child actors...just like how you have bad and good adult actors. I know plenty of actors that started out as kids, and are still in the business. But it's just like the media to only tell you about the bad ones. Because Humanity would honestly find it boring if News and media only reported good things. It you and all the posters in this thread (even me) that makes an actor like Culkin or those other names in this thread.

But we need kids to be actors. What...you wanna hire a vertically challenged adult to play an 8 yr old? Sorry...but all the makeup in the world wouldn't give us a "realistic" kid in a movie.

Any questions?

not all of them had tragic lives

Will Wheaton
Sean Astin
Elijah Wood
Veronica Cartwright
Sally Fields
but it can be dangerous if the actor head isnt on straight

Brad Renfro
Jonathan Brandis
Carl Switzer
Cory Haim

They forgot about the craft of acting

There parents did not keep them grounded! Cory was told YES he should have been told NO NO NO NO and when he is about to give up YES

For Jonathan it was more he was teen mag Royality then after he left Seaquest no one wanted a grown up Jonathan. He even want on a audition with a shirt that said tv shows go *beep* off or something like that. Obvously he didnt get the job.

Carl had the royal treatment and it is no wonder he died in a gun fight

Cory was said yes and when the lights dimmed he couldnt find who he WAS as an actor he had to rely on the Lost Boys

He was high when he filmed the scenes

Look like Tarzan talk like Jane! HAHA

reply

I liked Sally Field's ass in "Stay Hungry"

reply

Ron Howard.

reply

Good one !

reply

He may have a comeback. It depends on the era the kids grew up in. The child stars of the 80's REALLY struggled, but some bounced back. Drew Barrymore is a prime example. Haley is still young.

reply

He was funny as hell in "The Kominsky Method". He could definitely have a continuing career in funny character roles like that.
