Robert De Niro

I just noticed that he never does "romance". Even when he's married in Godfather 2, there's none of it. Fine actor, but he was surrounded by a lot of fine roles in the 70s, and I don't think he's choosing wisely, since I haven't heard his name mentioned with any movie in many years.

reply

He seems like a nut.

Can't imagine any woman wanting to be within striking distance of him.

reply

Agreed

reply

He's been married twice and has 7 children and is currently with a 64-yr old Asian hottie (he's 80). You were saying...?

reply

Nut. What's special about that?

Anyone can buy a whore.

reply

She's 64 you tRumptwad! Can your ilk be any stupider or more mean-spirited?! (I'm sure you'll give it a try!)

reply

My ilk? You mean people who think golddiggers are horrible?

reply

People who think anyone (almost always a woman) marrying someone with more money than they have is a "golddigger." That makes you of an "ilk." You have no clue about their personal relationship, so you should just STFU!

reply

I'm not saying this debate is cut 'n dried but ..

Some people will always carry on an argument/discussion on the losing side purely out of loyalty that it was their assigned "side" at the start of the discussion , no matter how ludicrous and untenable that side gets.
Like they are in "debate club" at school (if such things really exist).
My mom is one of these :)

I'm also wondering if this mental mechanism is why Trumpers will never stop their undying support.

Is is true that you eat Chunky soup with a fork?

reply

It's been a while since I saw Casino, but no love scenes with Sharon Stone?

reply

Their relationship goes bad pretty quickly, but there are certainly some romantic moments.

reply

Sam and Ginger fell in love fast in Casino but it was mostly him buying her stuff and she was a grifter type and he was her mark.

I prefer DeNiro's psycho/crazy roles, like in Raging Bull, Goodfellas and Mean Streets.

reply

They make out, though?

I think DeNiro was very good in Raging Bull and Goodfellas, but he was rather miscast in Casino, especially if you look at the reallife guy.

reply

There is very little love in their romance. He wanted a sexy showgirl type arm piece and she wanted material wealth.
They should have never met!

DeNiro didn't look at all like Jimmy Burke, the real life Goodfellas character he played.
He's just so great in the Taxi Driver/Maniac roles that I sort of look past it. He was terrific in The Killers Of The Flower Moon, very conniving and cruel, but he didn't look like the real guy who orchestrated a lot of those murders.

reply

I wasn't buying it. I didn't feel they had any chemistry. She had more chemistry with James Woods, coming and knowing the same world. She had all the money, whatever she wanted, but she wanted that guy, not De Niro, and even the trust seems to contrived (the bank account in both names).

reply

I agree, maybe it's not in his acting wheelhouse. He's a legend, but a lot of his work is high level overacting.

reply

That certainly was an interesting dynamic to the story.
Woods was such a great star, I really loved him in True Believer, Cop, The Onion Field, Videodrome...the guy was a great star, he always shined!

I think his politics got him shut out of Hollywood, that's a real goddam shame. I really respected his work but within the bullshit Hollywood crowd you have to follow the cult...You know, the cult that tells everyone to 'save the planet' while they fly personal jets to their four mansions and tell us our personal guns are a big problem while they stroll around with armed bodyguards.

Woods was on a similar level with John Milieus and Sam Peckinpah but slightly less crazy.
WTH, is everyone in pictures a bowing wimp now?
What happened to MEN in Hollywood?

reply

I agree.. Clint Eastwood is the last man in Hollywood.

Even the liberals aren't liberal anymore!

reply

Clint Eastwood is a good actor and director.
If he's a good man you may ask yourself.

reply

Stanley & Iris (1990) is probably the closest he's come to a straight romance picture.

reply

Also, you could make a case for Mad Dog & Glory (1993)

Robert and Meryl sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G! First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes baby in a baby carriage. "Falling in Love" movie:

He has a romance with Angela Bassett in ‘The Score’ (2001).

reply

When I even think of Deniro with a female, I'm already drawn to CAPE FEAR

reply

lol, yeah, not very romantic. "Taxi Driver" - another horrible encounter to a woman who might have wanted, but never got past the porno theater
