How do y'all feel about Clowns?

Like in general. Do they make you laugh or do they scare you? I just watched a pretty interest video on a clown

Personally, I'm kinda indifferent to them. I've met a few in my lifetime but none of them made any kinda impression on me

They haven't made me genuinely laugh out loud or traumatise me in any way.

And I've liked some pop culture clowns like Joker, Pennywise & Krusty the Clown but I've never had a fascination or fear of them

I try to avoid the politics boards.

reply

Ayoooo! haha

I used to have a poster of the iconic Emmett Kelly which said, "Share with me my sadness and I'll share with you my joy."

Now you listen, and listen good:
These clowns will be the death of us all. It will soon be a world of clowns, jugglers and freaks. Mark my words.

Oddly enough I think a few of us would thrive in a world full of clowns, jugglers and freaks.

They should be worried about us.

reply

Why? Do I amuse you?

reply

I'm like Kramer

Seriously though, a good clown act is great.

reply

LOL, one of the best seinfeld moments

Proper circus type clowns, red nose and face paint included? Not my favourite. Historically, they have a bad rep for a reason, which is why they work so well in the horror genre. I'm not afraid, but I'm reasonably unsettled by them.

reply

Understandable. And you're right, they're a bit more creepy than funny.

reply

I wouldn't even call them funny, I think that type of humor is kind of out of date.

reply

Oh yes. The outdated slapstick humor & how Clowns have basically been portrayed as scary & monstrous in almost all of popular forms of entertainment has insured their decline

reply

MAKE SURE THEY TAKE THEIR MAKE-UP OFF BEFORE YOU HAVE SEX WITH THEM...OTHERWISE...IT MAKES A REAL MESS.

reply

That's part of the allure.

reply

But Kowalski, that's my kink.

reply

Circus-style clowns have vanished from the cultural landscape, haven't they? Circuses are gone, Barnum & Bailey etc. have shut down, there's nothing left of traditional clows but a few party clowns and the creepy clowns of horror movies.

reply

I think Hollywood kinda helped in their "downfall". Cause over 90% of Clown portrayals in show & films in the past 2 decades has been villainous/monstrous

I think that has 'helped' with their decline. We have an entire generation that has basically grown up with "scary clowns" in pop culture

reply

The only film I can think of from the last 50 years that featured clowns being funny, was "Shakes the Clown" (1991), starring Bob Goldthwaite as an alcoholic clown.

And most of the humor in that movie didn't come from the clowning, it came from the clowns sitting around the clown bar, being alcoholic losers who said horrible funny things, as they sat around wasting their lives.
