What is your favorite inexpensive comfort food?


My favorite comfort food is Hamburger Stroganoff.

Brown 1lb. Hamburger then drain the fat. Add 1 can of condensed cream of mushroom soup, 8oz. of sour cream and salt and pepper to taste. Stir well and simmer for 5 minutes or until heated through. Serve over wide noodles.

My mom used to make that when I was a little kid and it's delicious!

Soups. I love when they're piping hot and I drink the broth from the bowl and I feel the heat of it going down and radiating through my insides. So soothing and comforting it's fantastic.

A dirty Whooper from Borger Kang really hits the spot. mcdanks big macs have twice as much bread as burger and completely suck these days (they used be actually big in the 1970s but gradually reduced the meat levels by couple percent every year until gradually they became the vegan option they are todayđŸ˜”â€đŸ’«) the Kangz borger is dirty too but at least tastes pretty badass and is meaty enough to actually be called a cheesebruger

Big Macs have always used two of the standard hamburger/cheeseburger patties, which weigh 1.6 ounces (1/10 lb.) each before cooking. McDonald's didn't have any other size patty in use when the Big Mac was invented in the late 1960s. Their first burger to use a bigger patty was the Quarter Pounder, which came along in the early 1970s (4 ounces before cooking, as the name implies).

There have been various franchise owners over the years who have offered Big Macs made with two 4-ounce patties, but the official Big Mac has always had the small "one-ten" patties.

I've made copies of Big Macs at home lots of times, both with 1.6-ounce patties and 4-ounce patties, and I prefer the 1.6-ounce patties version; it's more balanced (not as filling obviously, but that can be solved by making two of them). Here's a picture of one I made:

Ah but what about the dressing? And the cheese should be melted on top of the patty. Just a suggestion.

No, the cheese goes on bottom, right where I put it. Look at any official picture of a Big Mac, such as this one:

OK! I see you've done your research. So does your Mac taste like the Micky D Big Mac?

It tastes very similar, better in some ways, not as good in other ways. I like the patties I make better because I make them the way they did up until about the mid 1980s, i.e., on a regular griddle, flipped when one side is done to cook the other side. Now they use a clamshell griddle which cooks both sides at once. Also, I use real ground chuck; McDonald's now uses cheaper "ground beef." Plus I season them (while cooking) with a blend of salt, pepper, onion powder, and MSG, whereas McDonald's now uses only salt and pepper, probably because of the unwarranted bad publicity that MSG started getting in the 1980s.

I like the sour dill pickles I use better than McDonald's pickles too. McDonald's pickles are good, but the Heinz Genuine Dill pickles I use are the best (IMO), and very hard to find.

I like the cheese that McDonald's uses better than anything I can find in the store. I use Kraft Deli Deluxe American cheese (yellow), which is good, but it doesn't taste like McDonald's American cheese, which isn't sold in stores.

I don't notice any significant difference with the rest of the ingredients. I do miss out on having their fries and fountain Coke to go along with it though. Ore-Ida "fast food" fries, if you deep fry them, are pretty good, but they're not as good as McDonald's fries, and there's nothing that you can buy in a store that tastes like McDonald's fountain Coke. Mexican Coke is a decent substitute. It tastes nothing like McDonald's fountain Coke, but it's still very good in its own right.

Ramen Noodle is a good one and it’s an easy one pot cleanup. For about a buck USD you are stuffed but lay off it if your diet doesn’t allow much salt.
