Name a show (or shows) that peaked with their first season

They could've even had good later seasons but never reached the heights of the first season.

I'm finally watching Westworld post season 1. While the seasons are not bad, they're just not that engaging. That first season is just one of the best things ever put on TV (in my opinion)

Another one is Heroes. Man, that first season was a phenomenon. "Save the cheerleader, save the world"

They never recovered after the writers' strike of 2007/08.

Happy Days, the first season had a bit of grit to it. The Fonz was more like an actual hood, the guys talked about more than just making out with girls. After that it became more wholesome and eventually they all looked like they lived in the late 70's and 80's.

Supernatural, I liked the "monster of the week" type of thing they had in the early seasons. After about season 5 or so they start with longer and usually boring story arcs.

reply

The reason why Supernatural went to shit after season 5 is because that was the originally planned ending

The creator left after season 5. The story arc that began with the first episode ended with the finale of season 5.

Everything after that was just, "let's continue this just cause people are watching it."

reply

Yep. I wish they would stick to that approach. A limited number of solid seasons rather than run a show into the ground.

Jensen Ackles is now trying a prequel The Winchesters which is very ordinary.

I can name a few shows where the first season was just great, and with each subsequent season, the series got worse and worse. These are The Walking Dead and The Hundred. Those two shows are great, but each season has drifted away from the first. If you watch the first season and then the last season, you can tell they are two different shows.

reply

I loved The Walking Dead to begin with but it became repetitive and hopeless after a while. They find a place to be safe only to be driven out or for that place not to be what it seemed etc That is a pattern with a lot of shows they repeat the same the story lines over and over.

Wayward Pines: Season 1 wrapped everything up too well and the 2nd season just didn't work or really have anywhere to go.

reply

Omg, I forgot about that. That first season was absolutely fantastic. With th exception of the ending.

Sorry, not a fan of the Shyamalan "twist".

reply

I know what you mean.

reply

Wayward Pines was good for about four episodes. It blew its wad far too early.

reply

PRISON BREAK...AMAZING FIRST SEASON...SOME GOOD BITS IN LATER SEASONS BUT THAT FIRST SEASON WAS EPIC.

reply

Yes! It's like the writers didn't know what to do AFTER the actual Prison Break.

reply

Lost. I agree with Heroes, I couldn't even make it through any of the other seasons.l

reply

I honestly liked the first 3 seasons of Lost. Thought they were excellent

Charmed

Castle

Boardwalk Empire

Honestly, lots of shows, sitcoms seem to be the exception.

reply

Because situation comedies are never good, so they cannot deteriorate.

reply

A lot of great sitcoms out there. Fawlty Towers is one of the best tv series of all time.

reply

Fawlty Towers is God-tier comedy.

reply

I thought the first season of Manifest was interesting, but it quickly went downhill after that.

reply

Maybe Twin Peaks

Orphan Black (2013-17)

The first season was great and the next four seasons went from bad to absolute garbage.

reply

For real though, people always praise Tatiana Maslany's performance.

But you rarely see them praise the actual show as much as the performance.

It's a pretty mediocre show with a great performance (in my opinion)

reply

Yes Tatiana Maslany was mesmerising in the roles but it's a pity she wasted so much of her time and talent on four rubbish seasons.
