The Manchurian Candidate (1962)

A good list, but I would add Dr. Strangelove.

Strangelove is a thriller?

reply

Absolutely. Weren't you anxious to see if the bomber got through and bombed its target? I sure was, and I was
very surprised when they DID get through.

๐Ÿ˜Ž

reply

You're reaching. It could have been a thriller based on content, but that's not really the direction Kubrick took it.

Were it a legitimate thriller, Dr. Strangelove would pop up on just about every serious "Best Thriller" list ever made. I haven't seen it on a single one.

reply

I still think it's a thriller, a comedy thriller.

๐Ÿ˜Ž

reply

That's fine, then. You initially presented it as fact, claiming it was "absolutely" a thriller. That came off as a bit obnoxious to me, if I'm being honest.

But if you want to consider it a thriller your own book, be my guest.

reply

I did not present it as a fact, but rather an opinion. And my opinion stands. And you seem to be a bit
on the nasty side, if I'm being honest.

reply

Well, in my opinion, you presented it as a fact. And my opinion stands.

๐Ÿ˜Ž

reply

Well your opinion was wrong.

๐Ÿคจ

reply

Is that your final answer, or would you like to go back and edit your post again?

๐Ÿ˜Ž

reply

Yep. That is my final answer. Your opinion was wrong.

๐Ÿคจ

reply

"Whatever."

๐Ÿ˜Ž

reply

I will agree to disagree.

๐Ÿ˜Ž

reply

it's a parody

reply

No, it's a satire, and a thriller.

๐Ÿคจ

reply

all the characters are based on real people. that's parody.

reply

They are? I don't think so. Who exactly are they based on?

Enemy of the state (1998)

No way out (1987)

i have been meaning to see this.

reply

10/10

reply

that's high praise

reply

i watched almost half of it. it's a bit slow.

reply

Really. I think the editing is actually pretty faced paced.

reply

so much........................dialogue.

reply

That's what makes it so great. It's constantly moving.

reply

a movie that needs to be viewed a few times. i thought too many of the actors looked alike.

reply

Army of Shadows was much better.

reply

I like that one too. I own both.

reply

Took me forever to finally see it on TCM. Would love to watch it again.

reply

I saw it once on TV one day and for years tried to watch it again. I managed to find one on a now defunct movie site, but I have the digital file of it so I'm all good.

reply

Enemy of the State is my favourite, probably because it's more action than politics.

reply

the lives of others

reply

a very good one. east germany was the ultimate police state.

reply

it has some competitors (north korea for sure!) but it would be up there.

have you read any books on east germany? i read stasiland about a year ago & thought it was great.

reply

yes i did read that book. it was scary the personal info the government kept on the citizenry. they had buildings full of files on people.

I have spoken in the past with some people of the former DDR. It is amazing to hear that some of them still find that "not everything in the DDR was wrong".

reply

Been meaning to see this, which shouldn't be hard since I have a DVD of it, but for some bizarre reason I've never viewed it.
Invited a friend over once but it didn't work out. That's as close as I have come.

reply

All The Presidents Men tops my list, but these are good too

The Ides of March
Bridge of Spies

reply

Serpico and Prince Of The City were great books and movies about corruption in New York City
