Metaphor for drug addiction? Best film of the year? Is Leo wearing a fake nose? Why does Winston always call Wick "Jonathan"? Anyone remember the site YMDb? Should have cut out that tedious dialogue at the end between Barbie and Ruth Why cut off her hands? Mayor Ebert & his assistant Gene Spitting into the ferret's mouth? So, he literally cuts off the girl's ass... View all posts >

Zack Snyder's Justice League I am not much of a Superhero movie fan, nor Snyder fan (although, interestingly, I consider Watchmen to be brilliant). I also had never seen the theatrical version of Justice League, so can't say whether this DC was the massive improvement everyone seems to claim it is. But honestly, I was totally unimpressed. Overlong, tedious, even confusing at times. The film takes four hours to get basically nowhere. Tacking on that pointless 30-minute epilogue was a particularly egregious mistake by Snyder. While there are several impressive sequences throughout the movie, even those were often tarnished by an overreliance on overblown CGI. Honestly, the whole thing felt more like a rough assembly cut rather than a finished product. I rate it a generous 5/10. This would have been a story if the Chiefs had lost, but since they won people will forget about it. Calling it “dating” is a bit of a mischaracterization, I think. It’s not like the woman is trying to get laid here. We know she’s an FBI agent simply gathering information for a case. She may be playing on the kid’s childhood fantasy a bit, but I don’t see it as malicious. Pretty harsh review. I loved this movie as a kid, and rewatched it recently as an adult. I’m sure a lot of it was nostalgia, but thought it held up fairly well. Sure, the plot is completely ridiculous, but if viewed as fantasy it’s fun entertainment. To be honest I haven’t seen that since I was a kid and don’t really remember much of it. I know it’s a classic though, and probably deserves a rewatch. As a completionist, I try to finish everything I start, but one I couldn’t make it through was Gummo. I was pretty tired when I started it and not enjoying it at all, so I gave up and went to sleep. I still may get back to it at some point, but this was about 6 months ago and I’ve yet to feel any interest in returning to it. Stephen Tobolowsky “Test this, you fucking quack!🖕” I’m skeptical that a movie can truly be perfect, so I don’t include that as a descriptor in my personal rating system. If you removed the “perfect 10” from your first system and then basically just bumped the other descriptors up by 1 point each, we’d pretty much be on the same page. My system looks something like this: 10: Masterpiece 9: Excellent 8: Very good 7: Good 6: Decent 5: Mediocre 4: Poor 3: Very poor 2: Horrible 1: Unbearable I'm not sure it will be quite that high scoring but if it turns into a shootout that would be a lot of fun. Should be very competitive either way. Bills over Chiefs in a nail-biter. Texans shock Ravens to advance to AFC Championship game. (Fun fact: CJ Stroud already has as many career playoff wins as Lamar Jackson.) Lions handle Bucs to keep NFL’s feel-good story alive. 49ers roll over Packers. (Nice win by GB in Dallas but Cowboys were frauds all year. I don’t think this one will be close.) View all replies >
