Can people in at least some circumstances be BOTH right AND wrong at the SAME time?

Or do very much most if not ALL our actions etc fall STRICTLY into ONE of the two polar opposite moral terms, not just speaking about at least some shades of grey there?

reply

That manipulative question reeks of quilt.

reply

"Quilt" or "GUILT"? Or BOTH?

reply

No, obviously it's kilt.

reply

Tilt?

reply

Maybe Quill as in the movie "Quills" (2000)?

reply

What? Guile?

reply

Yes.

now why do you bring this up?

reply

As usual - curiosity, nothing (much) more.

reply

THis is a topic far too complex to be held in the general. Moral relativism gets really complicated when you examine it.

reply

I hear lots of times people shout at other people, but in some cases, those they shout at really did do something wrong in the first place, however small, but are they still right to shout at them like that?

reply

Is this questioning whether shouting is an acceptable behavior or consequence to doing wrong?

reply

More or less how "acceptable" it is yeah and if they are necessarily WRONG to shout? Or neither?

reply

Very "He who fights with monsters should be careful lest he thereby become a monster. And if thou gaze long into an abyss, the abyss will also gaze into thee." or as paraphrased on Babylon 5 "they forgot the first rule of the fascist, make certain you do not become the fascist"

reply

You got busted for something and got yelled at.
/thread

reply

Yelling/shouting is SOOOOOOOO stupid! When the yelling starts, communication ends.

reply

ikr / thats why i asked him to elaborate , but i know he's not good at that.

just found out the site has a philosophy board! that'd be the best place?
last post there by our man18

reply

You asked me to elaborate?

I thought why I brought it up just meant to ask what was my motivation for posting this and I replied with "curiosity".

reply

fair enough . I was just curious what made you think of it .

Even if its nothing in your (or anyones ) life and purely hypothetical , its far too broad of a propasiotion to really start a conversation , unless you give a made up hypothetical example.

Like:
"Would it be wrong for a man to steal an apple if it prevented his child starving?"
or
"Would it be ok to burn you neighbour's new car because he's being a dick and bragging about it"

reply

I can understand and appreciate the annoyance with people wanting to attack "in this case only" style arguments. because when you're trying to discuss something deeper then attacking the surface of the argument with "but I googled this and you are wrong" doesn't change anything.

reply

a good point .
(he says after asking the man to make up an example :) )

but just narrowing it to some sort of area might help ,
like morally right wrong ? or mathematically? or legally?
or it might be some sort of shrodingers cat situation.

reply

Sure.

For example: me, right now, I'm wrong.

reply

A perfect answer for a theman18 post!

reply

I don't know if he got the trick of the answer, since it's exactly what he asked: both wrong and right at the same time.

reply

In today's world, it's wrong to be right.

reply

Yeah, but by WHAT standards? People who are stupid and prejudiced and enforce rules like that don't count.

Or have lines in humanity that separate the good from the bad, the clever from the stupid, the civilized from the wild, the rational from the hysterical etc etc etc, already been blurred and that it is virtually impossible to tell like that who is who, right?

(Note - that didn't stop my [father/mother/grandmother/local police officer/teacher/etc etc etc] from acting in a civilized manner and preaching what is right or wrong and presenting themselves as people on the CORRECT side if you get what I mean, in a very blunt and matter-of-fact style and approach.)

reply

i read that as circumcision at first and was like no way bro circumcision is never right. it is scary how many mcmurican boys got their junk mutilated by some jew doctor. i was lucky enough to be born in a family of racist anti-semitic immigrants from East Europe so when those evil doctors came for my dick skin my amazing mum told em to fuck off. i couldnt imagine losing my foreskin, it would be so tragic

reply

the things we have to deal with eh?
I have to fight off evil jewish doctors coming for my dick skin on a weekly basis .
I've put a "no cold calling" card in the window , that seems to be holding them off for now.
Them and the organ donation doctors

reply

it wasn't until the nazis used dicks to identify jews that our corrupted medical system start pushing for all the mcmurican dicks to be cut. how many murican dicks have to be mutilated till they are satisfied with their agenda?!?

reply

Is that a hard rule for you? If so, you could erect a sign in your yard so that those pesky dick doctors will know they got the shaft!! 😜

reply

I tip my hat to you! You made your point briefly and succinctly! Great progress!

As I get older, I find the world more grey, than black and white.

Agreed. Now for the random caps FTD (forum transmitted disease).

Morality = trust

Without trust society is only governed by self-interest (x vs y: groupthink).

Unity without identity = imperialism

Identity without unity = tribalism

Unity + identity = "true" religion (in Latin it means "to bind")
