reply

Buffalo 66 is my favorite film on your list, and I’ve only just discovered it this year. 👍

I always look at it like if I were going to live on an island and I could only bring 10 DVDs:

The Italian Connection (1972)
Jaws (1975)
The Wild Geese (1978)
The Man From Deep River (1972)
Buffalo 66 (1998)
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966)
Apocalypse Now (1979)
Come and See (1985)
Death Proof (2007)
Aguirre, The Wrath of God (1972)

reply

A lot of those would have made my extended 'Top' list.

reply

I like a top 25 list better. 😀

reply

Oh, what the hell, let’s do a Top 100!

reply

I’m ready when you are. Post it up! 👍

reply

Right, I better get scribbling.

reply

I have a list of 250 so I’ll just be deleting 150. 😳

reply

We could just have an open ended, no limit list.

No, we need to be ruthless.

reply

We better not. I’ve already unlocked several OCD achievement power ups this week.

reply

How about top by genre?

reply

There you go. Let’s pick a genre and do another top 10.

reply

I’ll get my thinking cap on.

reply

is it on yet?

reply

Absolutely! I just wanted to wait until this thread had died down first (I don’t like stealing other people’s thunder).

I’m going to go with a genre that hasn’t been done to death (not necessarily obscure though).

There’s enough sub-genres to keep us going for ages.

reply

I’ll do it before you

reply

Last time this was done, I hadn't seen Aguirre, The Wrath of God, amazing film!

reply

Aww good! I’m glad you liked it. Klaus Kinski is a maniac. I have the soundtrack on vinyl and it’s one of my favorites also.

reply

Wow.

reply

Bad wow or good wow?

reply

Pretty good.

reply

That’s better than all bad. 😀

reply

There are some interesting movies as favorites. Surprising ones.

reply

Sling Blade
Deliverance
Godfather I/II
Moby Dick
Breaker Morant
One-Eyed Jacks
2001 A Space Odyssey
Glengarry Glen Ross
The Pink Panther
The Grapes Of Wrath

reply

A lot of those would have made my extended 'Top' list.

reply

Great movies -
2001 A Space Odyssey
The Grapes Of Wrath
Godfather I/II

reply

Props on your first pick

reply

Network is an interesting choice.

You have curious.

How does that make your own personal list Bill?

reply

Great writing, acting, message about how our media has only one bias - financial.

reply

Fantastic film. I loved it. Not to mention one of the most iconic scenes of the 1970's, if not ever!

reply

Ned Beatty's speech? Or Howard Beale's first appearance after being "fired" followed by everyone shouting out the windows?

reply

The shouting out the window!

Of course!!!

What an amazing film sequence. I loved that scene. It's certainly among the best in film history.

...

I think it's actually better than the "Godfather" restaurant scene or "Psycho" with a knife to the shower or Chrissie being eaten alive in the opening of "Jaws". Or all of the above famous scenes we read about.

And even Toto ripping the curtain on "The Wizard of Oz".

Very underrated!

Great pick!

reply

I agree, and I think more should watch this today as the media is more gossip and trivial than ever. But very powerful.

reply

Paddy Chayefsky was a great writer.

reply

"Network"

reply

REALLY, REALLY HARD TO. I'll do in a minute and pretend not to regret any of the below. Many of them won't be Oscars. There might be some spit takes. But I think they are great flicks you can watch again and again...

Jaws
Back To The Future
Back To The Future Part II
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
The Godfather
Harvey
Alien
The Family Man
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Super 8

reply

A lot of those would have made my extended 'Top' list.

reply

Close Encounters of the Third Kind is the only one that ever made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. It really did; (something stood up)

reply

Wizard of Oz
Star Wars
Planet of the Apes (1968)
Starship Troopers
Goodfellas
Independence Day
Time Machine (1960)
Falling Down
Face Off
12 Monkeys
--------------
Bladerunner
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Children of Men
Watchmen
Avengers Infinity War

reply

What a great list!

And you can blame me to for BTTF 2 or Christmas Vacation.

But Starship Troopers?

AND NO ..I'm not a prick just trolling.

Just curious?

reply

It’s awesome and great messages about politics throughout.

reply

Starship Troopers is a vastly misunderstood film. Unfortunately, most people just pass it off as a 'shoot 'em up, bug fest', which is understandable, but if you look a bit closer, it's a wonderful political satire - plus the effects really stand up and there's plenty of eye candy; what's not to like?

For me it's got plenty of rewatchability; a perfect popcorn flick that makes you think.

reply

I love it at face value. heh

reply

I skipped that movie so many times until one day and I loved it. There is a good love story? and a lot of bug action. And likable characters.

reply

Wonderful list though!

reply

Time Machine (1960) is an interesting choice, I love the books of H.G. Wells.

reply

Sci-Fi is my favourite genre.

reply

Michael Douglas's "Falling Down?" Hmm.

The Wizard of Oz is a good one (on my top 20 list)

reply

A lot of those would have made my extended 'Top' list.

reply

To Kill a Mockingbird (1962)
Jeremiah Johnson (1972)
Local Hero (1983)
The Lord of the Rings (2001, 2002, 2003)
Spartacus (1960)
Ben-Hur (1959)
Forbidden Planet (1956)
Casablanca (1942)
-----------------------------------------------
I counted The Lord of The Rings as three films, however if it is only counted as one (in three parts), then I'll add ...
The Apartment (1960)
A Thousand Clowns (1965)

reply

To Kill a Mockingbird (1962)

Gregory Peck! He owned that film!

reply

Jeremiah Johnson (1972) 👍

reply

Great picks.

reply

Ben-Hur (1959)
Gone with the Wind (1939)
Schindler's List (1993)
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
Psycho (1960)
The Departed (2006)
Citizen Kane (1941)
Apocalypse Now (1979)
Taxi Driver (1976)
The Godfather (1972)

reply

So many of these would make my top 25, classics!

reply

A lot of those would have made my extended 'Top' list.

reply

You got a great list there. There are four of the greatest movies of all time on your list. My favorites.

Citizen Kane (1941)
The Godfather (1972)
Gone with the Wind (1939)
Ben-Hur (1959)

reply

At this point 8 know your top 10 by heart almost.

I think it’s time we see other people.

reply

Same as last time you asked. 😉

Goodfellas (1990)
The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
Star Wars (1977)
Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
Casablanca (1942)
White Heat (1949)
Blade Runner (1982)
Zulu (1964)
Reservoir Dogs (1992)

reply

Very close to mine. Dogs was in my top 10 once upon a time. I'm not surprised. Always feel like I know you IRL.

reply

I saw Dogs many times at the cinema, it narrowly beats Pulp Fiction for me.

reply

A lot of those would have made my extended 'Top' list.

reply

I haven’t seen White Heat yet.

reply

Madonna made me see it: https://youtu.be/EGTvba7mqA0

reply

Ahh! Your right!!

reply

White Heat - One of Cagney's best.
