Why do women/girls like horses/ponies so much?

When was the last time you heard the phrase "Penis envy" in media?

Not only women. I absolutely love horses. I learnt how to ride when I was a kid, and it's one of the best experiences in my life.

I know some serious horsewomen in real life, the sort of people who have devoted their lives to working with horses, who have horse-based careers. There's definitely an element of animal-nuttery, they all love all animals, but the appeal of real horsewomanship seems to be that you spend years training this big, beautiful, powerful animal, and teaching it and getting it to do exactly what you want... gradually controlling it in a way you can't do with humans. So that may be the core of the appeal or not, I can't really say as I've never got the horse bug myself.

The thing is, I don't know if the sort of girls who go nuts over horses and ponies have any clue about that.

Not accurate. A significant amount of adult males enjoy My Little Pony. Also if you come to any horse racing or horse auction event, at least half of the spectators are males.
