Mask Wearing

After all this time it seems like people are finally starting to get it. I had to go to several stores today and everywhere I went almost everyone was wearing masks. A month ago you would be lucky to see half the people at any certain place wearing them here in south Louisiana.

What about in everyone else’s areas?

reply

Nearly everyone here in my area of NY wears the mask into stores (government orders and shop rules)

Out on the sidewalk in the open air, not very many though everyone tends to keep a reasonable distance

reply

mandatory here in public indoors spaces.

reply

Theoretically mandatory here, law not enforced. People over 30 have a good compliance rate, people in stores have got the message.

This is a college town, though, and it's full of young people who were raised by helicopter parents. They have a very poor rate of compliance and distancing, they're young enough to assume that the virus will forgive them if they slip up sometimes, or to worry about being cool.

It's getting better here in Cincinnati, but I still see people not complying with the mask mandate in Ohio.

I was at Hobby Lobby this morning and just about everyone had a mask on but there was a group of 7 - a woman and some teenage girls who were all over the store w/o masks. I really wanted to say something but didn't. The store manager was right by the area where they were and he should have told them to leave if they didn't have masks to wear.

I go out of my way to shop in areas where I know people are more responsible - I probably should have told the manager I won't be back to his store because they don't enforce the rules.

There are some fine looking masks out there. Bad ass masks with little valves on the sides, sporty masks, fashion masks, form fitting, big scarf masks that look like scarves.

I have some nices ones: one with whales on it, a Mondrien themed one and Van Gogh Starry Night, one with basset hounds all over it, some mean looking black masks. I am finding I get mask envy when I see nicer looking masks out there.

reply

The guy's called Mondriaan.

reply

No, it's Mandalorian.

reply

"Mondriaan" is the original spelling of his name. He changed it to its current form when he moved to Paris:

And he has nothing to do with Star Wars.

reply

He didn't change it to 'Mondrien', though.

And here in the Netherlands we still call him 'Mondriaan'.

reply

Everyone’s rocking the masks here in ‘Sunny’ Bournemouth.

reply

No masks.

Before all the hoopla TV doctors were saying it was more likely to get the virus on your hands and touch your face than to breath it through a mask. Now everyone has very very crappy masks and they believe it helps them and others stay safe.

Most masks are pure trash. Sorry.

Again, the overwhelming majority of masks are cheap masks that are not even good for filtering saw dust.

Wash your hands.
Don't touch your face.
This is much more important than wearing a mask that is likely very inferior.

reply

People still don't understand why we're wearing masks. It's not for you, it's for other people. Most masks are basically useless to filter virus if they are getting ingested into your nose. But if you're the one breathing out virus to the air, wearing a mask is better than not wearing anything FOR OTHER PEOPLE AROUND YOU.

reply

this 1000%

reply

It is true that the mask cannot filter the virus. What most people don't seem to understand is that the virus is transmitted by aerosol. The mask stops the water particles which the virus needs to survive. No water dispersal = no transmission.
