Let's talk about Vampires...

We've all seen dozens of these movies, so which do you think is the best?

I prefer The Lost Boys (87) above all the others
It had a great soundtrack, some fun young actors, Jami Gertz could not have been prettier, the sets including a massive comic book shop, a creepy vampire lair and a cool little ranch style house were terrific...Santa Cruz might have been the 'mass murder capital of the world' but with a boardwalk and party scene like that who's complaining?!

What's the best vampire movie in your opinion?

I have 2 favorites:

Let the Right One In (2008) to me was just such a fresh take on the vampire story and being it was Swedish it was not constrained by the Hollywood formula. The swimming pool scene is unforgettable.

Martin (1978) is probably my favorite. George A. Romero always keeps you guessing in this one. I absolutely love Kuda and how he says Nos-fer-Atu!

reply

Both of these are great. Let the Right One In is one of the most iconic movies in the last 20 years for me. And I play the soundtrack to Martin often.

reply

I need to see Let the Right One In...I've heard very good things about it

I recently saw Let the Right One In (2008) for the first time and no doubt about it, I will watch it again soon. I agree about the swimming pool scene, perfect ending!

I hadn't seen Fright Night (1985) for a long time and seeing it again last week, it's still wonderfully camp and fun, especially Evil Ed.

Martin (1978) was good and I've seen Lost Boys (1987) several times. Dracula (1931) has so many classic scenes. I haven't scene the Blade films or Interview for quite a few years.

Lost Boys is great and movies like Blade and Underworld are fun, but Interview with the Vampire is the best imo.

reply

That is a great one
Excellent novel too

reply

Haven't read Anne Rice in a while, but I'll take your word for it.

reply

She is a really fine writer

Very creepy good stuffπŸ‘

reply

I'd like to watch it with Jami Gertz.

Can you make that happen?

reply

If I could I'd hook a bro up!

The entire canon of vampire movies as a whole is my shit, most of the faves being the classics from Nosferatu '22 and Tod Browning's Dracula up through the Christopher Lee et al / Hammer era.

The one that's perhaps greatest to my mind is Carl Dreyer's Vampyr (1932). It's pure cinematic poetry. I think about it just about every day.

Bonus: here's a fun, weird stoner kitsch outing you don't hear about so often: Bloodstone: Subspecies II (1993)

I will search this one out on your recommendation.

Not a genre I particularily enjoy but my my two tops right now are What we do in the Shadows and Interview with a vampire.

I own The lost boys but never saw it yet. Thirst (2009) is another one I own and have great expectations about.

reply

I need to see Thirst
The S Korean thrillers are really tops!
