Maybe someone else can confirm this, but as far as I know it's not possible to delete your account at this stage.

I haven't had the need to contact him, so I don't know how long it'll take for a response. Hopefully you'll get one soon and resolve the issue :)

reply

He may not be able to respond to you just now. The few times I've contacted him, he's always responded, so just hang in a bit.

You can also try writing to the mods here: [email protected]. I don't know if they're able to delete accounts or not.

Sorry you're unable to post any longer.

You will probably have to contact Admin spiderwort. Hopefully this doesn't mean that you will no longer be posting over at IMDB2.0 as well?

When I wanted to leave I tried contact via Facebook and they didn't reply to my message,so I guess they don't monitor that page.

reply

Yes, I think that email is probably the surest way to make contact. I provided all 3 to improve the chances.

reply

You can checkout but you can never leave.

Since this was a counter fan site to IMDb, you will always be a part of the Moviechat.org family. Old IMDb account names stay even on the individual message boards. You will always be here.

Suggestion: Just movie all moviechat.org posts to spam.

I hear you with the too much work to do.

For the boards, I hear you too. I kept telling people that most outsiders see this forum as high traffic on the general discussion board. It is kind of like a party at the front door of a mansion without enjoying the rest of the rooms. The easiest way to draw traffic is to start threads and make people go to those specific pages. For instance, if I wanted to talk about Steven Spielberg, I would first make a comment on his message board page. Then I would make a thread on this general discussion, with a link, and tell them I made a comment there. It does not always work, however, it is better than making a comment and waiting for someone else to find it. People are lazy here, we would rather make a thread on general discussion because there is a better probability that it will be seen.

reply

[deleted]

Yes, the trending section of this website has such little impact and people think that will solve all their problems.

To get a discussion going:

1.) Look at the trending section and comment on those boards

2.) Go out of your way to make a comment on that page and then make a thread on the "General Discussion" that a party is going down at that specific page.

I would hope more people would join in. If not, then I have run out of ideas.

Time seems to be on your side...

reply

I agree it is unprofessional and he should fix this problem... but is there anything bad that can happen by simply abandoning the account? If someone wanted to do something evil... all he needs to do is record the information... email... ip address etc manually and delete the account... the actual deletion only gives you the feeling of the security... not actual security. I'm also aware that it's the principle that one should have the expectation of the ability to do this... and I respect that as well. However, I'm just saying this to put your mind at ease that 99% nothing bad would happen... and even if you successfully deleted it... it wouldn't really change anything drastically... unless that information only was given here and nowhere else on the entire internet.

[deleted]

Hopefully you will. I agree real life should come first and who knows when you return maybe the growth will have expanded to the levels your use to.

Classic forums like subboards? That's why. Most are sticking with other boards and may not use them. I posted to them alot and started going to other boards. That may be why. I say as time goes on not only will trending and general be popular, but those as well

reply

[deleted]

Sorry to hear that your efforts have been in vain so far spiderwort. I would post in the classic film section more often, but my knowledge of classic film is rather limited. IMDB2.0 seems to have a good many knowledgeable people in this area, and it seems like most of them ended up there after IMDB closed down. Your threads at that site were always quite active, so that’s probably a safe guess.

reply

[deleted]

I’m actually a member of 4 different sites spiderwort. MovieChat, IMDB Archives, Previously TV (Which I found out later does have a movie section) and IMDB2.0. After the closing of IMDB, I wasn’t able to find a “one size fits all” sort of site that met all of my needs. Though I have noticed that many of the members here feel that this site alone meets all of their expectations, and post here exclusively.

reply

As stated already, no, you cannot delete an account as of yet. But there have been a few people who wanted to leave so what they did was manually delete all of their posts/replies. That way, you won't receive any reply notifications. But your screen name will still be listed. So the only good deleting your posts will do is to prevent people from reading and responding to what you wrote.

That being said, I hope you stay and post when time permits. 😊

If you're using a phone or a tablet, simply use the emojis that come installed on your keyboard. If you're using a computer, some computers have that too. Or you can just go to an emoji website and copy and paste the emojis from there.

reply

You might get more luck with people responding if you post on individual classic film boards. That way, the individual movies will show up in the trending section and may entice people into checking those movie boards out.

reply

[deleted]

Shoot! I see you are already deleting your posts on Classic film board. I went there after seeing this thread.
I wanted to see what you had to say about A Tree Grows In Brooklyn..... one of my favorites. Now I'll never know.
These things do take time and patience. The site is young. I hate to see you go!

reply

[deleted]

I'm glad you responded! Yes. I love classic movies. All about Eve is up there in the top ten when it comes to faves.
I wish you would stick around even if it's just every few weeks. I have complete faith that this site will eventually be more active. I post on the individual boards at least once a day. I try not to let it get me down if I get no response. It's always nice when someone does talk to me. It has happened quite often too.
There's not need to delete an account. You can always come back in a few weeks or a few months to test out the boards again. I hope you hang in there.
No need to delete.

MissMargo is right -- sometimes it just takes a little time and patience. I'm determined to post on any board of anything I've just watched, even if that board's last post was months or years ago, because we are the ones who can get thing active again. I never worry if nobody has responded on a title-specific board --- but I am actually getting responses, so it's definitely worth it. Not as many as when I post here on GD, but it's happening on other boards, just slowly.

But then, that often was the case on IMDb too. Keep your account and keep posting, don't worry if activity seems low, just keep going.

reply

[deleted]

Spider, we are IMDb survivors. It's a bit too optimistic to think that things will be as busy here as they were on IMDb. I also noticed that you replied to dead nics that are remnants of IMDb boards. You can distinguish between dead nics and active ones by a number beside the nic. Only active nics have a number. I hope this helps.

reply

[deleted]

" but I am actually getting responses, so it's definitely worth it. Not as many as when I post here on GD, but it's happening on other boards, just slowly.

That is so true, especially on the individual classic movie boards on IMDb. I'd still have a comment or a question for someone even if their post was a few years old. Eventually someone would respond.
Back then we had our active boards and not so active boards. In a sense, it really isn't so different here.
Keep up the good work, Prelude!

reply

There is no Block option either which is also bizarre. I would be really angry if i could not have the option to delete.

reply

I didn't read all of the messages in this thread, so a few have probably said this by now, but it's frustrating how the majority of the communication on this site only happens on the General Discussion board. Even if you do post on a TV show or movie the board will get like two responses then go dead again. What if the General Discussion board was completely shut down for a day? Then people would be forced to comment on the TV/Movie/Actor boards.

reply

[deleted]

Like I said earlier, you would have a BETTER chance at getting some replies if you post/comment on INDIVIDUAL (classic) movie boards. Such as starting a thread on the actual Breakfast At Tiffany's board. That way, those individual movie boards will be shown in the "Trending" section and people will see it there and may click on that board and respond. It's the individual boards that get the traffic (after this General Discussion board of course).

reply

[deleted]

Are you yanking my chain lol? Were you ever a member of IMDb? There's a board for EVERY movie period. LOL

reply

[deleted]

I'm sorry, but this is very hard for me to believe. So I'm going to just bite the bullet and assume you're not trolling me and "guide" you through this huge movie landscape that is (was IMDb) Movie Chat...

So, you go to the very top of the page, any page actually. Now, you see the search engine there at the top that says "Search Movies, TV Shows"? Ok, so you type in Breakfast At Tiffany's (or the name of any movie) then click on the little yellow magnifying glass icon and presto! The movie Breakfast At Tiffany's will show up along with other shows of that same name. Click on the first one listed and prepare to be amazed!!!!

Totally agree spiderwort. There are some really interesting threads over there, but lack of sub-forums makes for subpar organization of threads at times.

With new posts, from 16 hours ago.

There's a large search bar at the top of the page here on Moviechat.

Type any film or show title into that search bar and it will bring up results just like on IMDb search. Click on the correct result, usually the top one and there is your movie.

Scroll down the page -- the board starts "below the fold" on your screen, but just scroll a little and there are the threads for that movie's discussions.

As for more activity on this General Discussion board than individual boards -- I think that's to be expected and only natural just now.

We are only a few months from the shipwreck! This site is only newly our new home. We are bound to be finding our feet for a while, and so most people gravitate toward the central spot, but will eventually find their way to discussions on boards they settle into.

I think all of this is natural and will organically change over time. Rome wasn't built in a day.

Just keep putting movie titles into the search bar and seeking out a film to discuss. The activity will only come if YOU are part of creating it in the first place. What we all need to remember is the simple fact that we ARE the activity but only if we don't sit here going "there's no activity". . . .

imdb had so much traffic that both the general genre boards like Classic Films and the individual movie boards had plenty of discussion. But just think of it this way-- if you didn't visit those individual boards previously there's a whole world of archives to explore.

I don't care. He wasted everybody's time on this thread. He poopooed every suggestion that people gave him. Didn't think it was possible that there were movie boards outside of his Film Classics Board. Then when I explain that there are boards for every movie, and THAT is where most people post, he didn't believe it. Then was ecstatic that it was true. Then checks them out only to disparage the thread titles he saw on them. All the while telling everybody left and right that he just doesn't have the time to be on Movie Chat and wants to delete his account. But yet seems to have all the time in the world to keep coming back to this post and comment over and over again.

Waste of my time and I'm done with this thread.

I never saw this movie, but I just went to the page and saw the character list. Now I know where our own HollyGoLightly got her screenname from!

People use general discussion as a chat room. Members do need a place to chat off topic. Although, it becomes a problem when off topic threads are used more than any other thread.

reply

I wish that I could delete my account because I don't like my posting history to be scrutinized by stalking neckbeards who are trying to get ideas for to write online articles and by pseudo-intelligent pompous assholes who get a sick thrill out of mocking others.

reply

[deleted]

And just why do you want to read someone's posting history? Hmm?

reply

[deleted]

I really don't like it when people delete their posts. it makes for a one sided conversation. It's frustrating to read. You always wonder what the other side of the conversation was. It also makes it difficult for me to jump in with my two cents.

reply

[deleted]

I'd just leave it as is. If I ever wanted to come back I always could.

reply

People don't need to studying your posting history while you're gone.

reply

People don't need to studying your posting history while you're gone.

I have a very hard time understanding what you mean by that as well.

reply

You mean deleted posts make it hard for you to gang up on someone because you don't have enough ammunition.

reply

Gang up? Ammunition? I don't understand what you mean by that.

I explained why it bugs me when people delete their posts. Once you delete, people who are reading it at a later date only see one side of a conversation. How can you take part in that conversation when you don't see what the other person even said? You can't!

Now would you please explain what you are talking about?

reply

Stop crying because you couldn't partake in a conversation.

On another note, I just read a new user being antagonized for no reason other than a false belief. Ben usually posts pornographic images and does a lot of spamming. Ben also rarely posts on the individual boards and he certainly doesn't complain about posting histories like I did. I'm not Ben. I doubt that newcomer is either. You all are running away people. That newcomer sounds legit. Instead of welcoming the newcomer, they gang up on him. That's wrong!

So , I'm just going to start ignoring anyone that argues with me or says something that I don't like.
You've made the list.

reply

It gets stranger and stranger. Glad I made your ignore list because I still have no idea of what you are going on about.
I'll steer clear of you too.
