I guess I can say that I am a hypocrite. I try to boycott sites, businesses, etc. that I feel are unethical or that have unethical histories.
IMDb, I am not sure is unethical; however, I do still use it. I do things in the film/tv show industry and if I need to look over my credits or add credits, I can do that there. Additionally, I still like IMDb for the trivia feature and Movie Chat does not have that.
Amazon, I have heard, is actually pretty unethical and I actually use to sell things on there as well as buy things. There is an actual Amazon warehouse here, where I reside, and even though they provide jobs, they are pretty bad. In terms of how they do things, it gets a bad reputation because people are not able to take good enough breaks. Did you know that, while you shop on Amazon, there is a person, who works about 12 hour days (they really have no choice, as there is only two shifts of this night and day) and is basically scrutinized over how fast they do their task? If they are not fast enough, they are replaced by another person and really, I hate when our species is used as such. Everyone should be given an 8 hour day, with adequate lunch, bathroom breaks, and not scrutinized into oblivion. I use to think Amazon was great and after hearing about it, it is basically a sweatshop to get that product to you. I will never support Amazon after that, no matter how convenient it is! The current head in charge, forget his name, needs to do some real work to bring ethics back. Even as he does provide jobs, provides a decent wage, and hires humans (instead of automating), which I give him credit for; he needs to learn to respect workers more.

Yeah, there are a lot of sweat shops like that in my area. Many are filled with people who speak little English and all are treated like dirt.

Well, most of this sweatshops thrive in areas, mostly red states, where the cost of living is low. Amazon pays well over the minimum wage; however, the catch is you have to work 12 hour days! It is basically mandatory overtime. In my area, it is mostly for people who, like you said, speak very little English and for people, who may have lost their jobs in this economy. That is the only fall back option. You probably would have to have minimum skill sets as well.
