Better than the original?

I remember watching the original movie on HBO or Cinemax, or maybe Showtime in maybe 1990 or so, I was very young and my family moved out of that house in 1990. We had new neighbors and my parents had them over. They were in the kitchen drinking beers and I was in the "TV room" watching Child's Play on one of the cable channels. I loved the movie, I thought it was so awesome, I was 8 or maybe 9 years old. I just watched the remake or retelling of Child's Play and think it's just as good or maybe even better than the original. Definitely more believable. I've had nostalgia for the first movie my whole life after watching it, it's hard not to after watching a movie you probably shouldn't be watching at such a young age. I grew up loving the original movies and even had a very realistic Chucky Doll up until a few months ago before I sold it on ebay. I would have held onto it but times have become tough, either way I think this movie is just as good if not better than the original.

Just watched the remake. Not even close to as good as the original. Not by a mile.

Granted, I’m not generally a fan of remakes, so they are already at a disadvantage, but man did I miss Brad Dourif as Chucky. Mark Hamill just wasn’t the same.

I liked the origin story of the original film about the dead serial killer possessing the body of the doll better than what they did here, and how old was Andy in this movie...like 12? Kid seemed like he was getting ready to drive, and he’s playing with dolls?

The remake had some decent moments, but there is no way in my opinion that it even comes close to the original Child’s Play.

The Chucky Doll here was not like the original, it's more similar to Teddy in A.I. and believe me, mu brother and I would love to have 1 in our current 30s ages. It's more of a robot than a doll.

No Brad Dourif, so NOPE.
NEVER!
NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, NEEVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!111!!!

terrible film.

I was never a big fan of the original. I didn't dislike it or anything just not one of its groupies. The remake is a decent movie updated for zoomers. Chucky looks like a freak but I guess that's tailored to younger generations.

Absolutely terrible movie disguised as a bad one.

There's so much to dislike about this film. Let me elaborate.

1) AI gone bad!!! OOOH that's so original. That's soo much better than a supernatural explanation. Well of course AI gone bad is perhaps THE most common SCI FI trope going on in the media right now. Every single computer, robot or electronic device secretly wants to be our enemy and kill us. It's been going on for decades but is such a cliche right now. This movie never should have adapted it, just to be somewhat more original.

2) Reminds me of the Simpsons Halloween episode segment with the killer Krusty doll "here is your problem..you set this thing to evil" This is satire. It's not meant to be a feature film! No serious horror fan finds anything Simpsons related to be scary. Amusing, funny, well written yes sure..but not scary.

3) The Doll does not give me the creeps at all. I actually felt kind of sorry for the little thing. I like Mark Hamil..he's a great voice actor but he's done sooo much voice over work in cartoons and Gooosebumps and kiddie stuff that his voice is not an asset to the movie. It feels more like an episode of Goosebumps on steroids.

4) Not sure why everyone is talking about the great acting. It seemed about average to me. Though I agree this is a bit subjective.

5) The original movie had this creepy, claustrophobic feeling. Here Andy makes friends easily. His friends believe him immediately. The original movie gives you a feel like maybe Andy could be the murderer and it's easily to believe how the mom and police are deceived. The movie touches upon this, but not nearly as effectively.

6) The pacing is terrible. There is not a single murder until around 40 minutes into the movie. This isn't a Hitchcock film. It just drags. Chucky has revealed himself to be somewhat autonomous with the cat scene but they show the murder as the prospective of "who is this", borrowing the style of the original film incorrectly

No, LOL. It's better than anyone thought it would be, but this is a comedy. The original is a legit horror movie.

Not better, no.

But enjoyable. It tried to be something a bit different, which I think is good. If you have a remake that's too similar to the first one, then you wonder why they bother to do it.

I thought both this one and the first one were enjoyable, but this one wasn't better than the original.

The original sucked.

Watched this one thinking it would be better and it sucked even harder.
