So we establish they didn't do the rape...

What of the other crimes? I mean they were with a group of 30+ other hooligan/thugs/gangbangers in the middle of the night causing trouble and hurting if not being hostile to passerby's. Seems like they pulled the racism card once they were exonerated from the rape case and won the $41 million in rewards. If this was anything else, they could've done a flash rob at a store with such a group size.

reply

They were a bunch of thugs. They were innocent from this particular crime, but they've likely assaulted quite a few people. That's why the police was convinced they raped her, and that's why they skipped the presumption of innocence and pinned the blame on them. And that's why presumption of innocence is necessary.

Of course, the people that brought this case to attack Trump are the very same that keep trying to take down presumption of innocence. So they needed to transform it in a tale of very bad evil white males that hate so much poor nice innocent black dudes and they sentence them to prison because hate hate hate bad racist evil bad white males hate nice poor blacks hate.

reply

First of all, the five weren't "thugs", only two of the boys actually even knew each other. And they were never given a "presumption of innocence"---they were treated like they were guilty from the moment they were picked up by the police. There was never one single damn piece of evidence to prove that they ever assaulted anybody, not the jogger or anyone else. That's why they got exonerated in the first place. That's why your statement dosen't make any damn sense whatsoever. You need to watch the doc The Central Park Five, and read up on the real case, because the BS you're spouting isn't even remotely true. And trump actually did put an ad out in the paper calling for the death penalty even before the boys' trial had taken place. He was the one who made a spectacle of himself around the case, so it's stupid of you to get all mad simply because he's mentioned in the film, because that's what he actually did---whether you want to accept that or not. He sure as hell has never pulled out an ad condemning any white criminals like he did with the Five, and yeah it was racist. Don't even try to say that it wasn't, because that would be a lie. A "bunch of thugs"? Uh, seriously? Where's the proof of that? Your spouting that nonsense sure as hell won't make it true, because it wasn't. You're only pissed off because trump was actually the bad guy in that scenario with the case, and you don't want to accept that, but he was---so that's just .too damn bad.

reply

general consensus is that they were all thugs

reply

General consensus among whom exactly?

>So they needed to transform it in a tale of very bad evil white males that hate so much poor nice innocent black dudes and they sentence them to prison because hate hate hate bad racist evil bad white males hate nice poor blacks hate.

SPOT ON. This movie, like so many others in television and books of the past keep trying to falsely paint the picture that the only reason so many black men are in jail is because of the mean white people. Not because of the reality that the blacks in society are committing more crimes per capita.

reply

I don't know if it was just for the series but the lawyer is shown questioning witnesses as to whether or not they were assaulted/harrassed by any of the five and he is told no. He asks someone if any of the five were identified as taking part in the other things going on in the park and he is told that they were not identified by any other park victims.

reply

Exactly. And don't forget, Corey was not even in the park that night!

reply

I don't think you can press charges for what they could have done.

reply

OP:
There were never any other crimes---you're just grasping at straws here, and making stupid accusaions here and there.

reply

You're right, they were there so they were deemed automatically guilty. Korey Wise wasn't ecen on the list, he just accompanied his friend to the station and got railroaded

The Central Park Five is a good book that tells the whole story

reply

I grew up in a poor neighborhood in Latin America and from a very young age
family members told me with whom and were I could go.

It has been proven that none of these kids had anything to do with the rape and
it's heartbreaking that they had to go thru what they went thru, especially Korey.

But why follow that group into the park?
It's difficult to believe that they were so naive at 14, 15, 16 years old... not 8.

reply

"It has been proven that none of these kids had anything to do with the rape"

That's complete BS. You can be charged as an accomplice to rape if you're present during it, doing nothing to stop it, and most especially if you're cheering it on and facilitating it in some way. And there is evidence that at least some of them were doing exactly that, based on their own un-coerced statements. The only thing that has been proven is that the chronic liar scumbag, Matias Reyes, was one of the rapists. Anyone standing around during the rape, holding her down, rooting it on, etc., are equally guilty (or almost) of rape. There's legal precedent for that. Regardless, at least 4 of them were in the park that night assaulting joggers and pedestrians at minimum. They don't deserve to be hailed as the heroes that the manipulative racist Ava Duvernay has attempted to make them out to be.

reply

Matias Reyes was an admitted, convicted serial rapist, who confessed to stalking the victim and doing the rape by himself so he could be absolved for his own twisted reasons. No one else was at the scene. Also, his DNA was all over the victims clothing, while no DNA from any of the five was ever matched to anything.

Just an aside here: I wonder what happened to Reyes after the confession, when he was sent back to prison. Did a gang of prison thugs, with the complicity of the guard(s), drag him into a cell and try to beat him to death the way they did to Korey Wise for raping "that white woman in the park?"

reply

"Matias Reyes was an admitted, convicted serial rapist, who confessed to stalking the victim and doing the rape by himself so he could be absolved for his own twisted reasons."

Yes, and among those twisted reasons was the fact that the statute of limitations had expired, so he could no longer be held accountable. How convenient.

"Also, his DNA was all over the victims clothing, while no DNA from any of the five was ever matched to anything."

Which is not proof that they weren't present at the rape, which at least a couple of them confessed to well before they reached an interrogation room. Further, DNA wasn't scraped around the scene of a crime back then the way it is now. The fact that Reyes was the only one with DNA on the victim isn't proof whatsoever that the CP5 (4 of them anyway) weren't accomplices to the rape as they had confessed. Your logic is bogus.

"Just an aside here: I wonder what happened to Reyes after the confession, when he was sent back to prison. Did a gang of prison thugs, with the complicity of the guard(s), drag him into a cell and try to beat him to death"

Yeah, that would be too bad wouldn't it? He was just a little ol' rapist who tore the eyes out of many of his rape victims so they couldn't identify him in court.

reply

Matias Reyes was already serving a life sentence for other crimes. The statute of limitations didn't matter to him. As for the kids, they didn't have to prove they weren't at the rape scene. The burden of proof was on the state, and the cops were hell bent on proving they WERE THERE, so they coerced confessions, had the kids and parents sign statements on the false promise they could then go home and back to their lives, videotaped the kids reading their so-called confessions, which were clearly written in cop-speak language that the kids would never have used. If my logic is flawed, then so was that of DA Morgenthau who, after conducting an investigation, had the verdicts against the kids vacated. The city of NY then awarded a 41 million dollar settlement to the five for the injustices they suffered.

reply

where are these so-called "videotape copspeak confessions?"

reply

You can find them on Youtube. There's also 20/20 on ID:The Central Park Jogger there that tells of the crime and the coerced confessions

reply

Absolutely! They bullied those kids into confessing and they immediately recanted
